I
agree with you. The start versions NS5 is also really cheap (about 550$; don't
really know to price in US$ as I leave in Switzerland).

RE: Microsoft Services for Unix

2001-09-24 Thread Patrick Straub
Title: Microsoft Services for Unix

Have a
look at ftp://ftp.intergraph.com/pub/eval/accessnfs and
try ds4intel.exe (is diskshare for NT; will make your NT server an NFS server
for unix nfs clients), da5intel.exe (is diskaccess for NT; NFS client tool for
NT), gw4intel.exe (is NFS gateway for NT; will allow you to reshare a mouted
UNIX NFS drive for other NT client that don't run an NFS client
SW).

I used
to work for Intergraph about 2 years ago, and those products were selected from
Microsoft for their Services for UNIX.

user files on the desktop can take quite a bit of space. create a shortcut
to a local folder (c:\data or c:\my documents or \\userserver\usershare)
and have the user put all documents, temporary desktop stuff there.

Are history and favorites part of the roaming profile also??

Hi everybody

Is there a way/tool to shrink ntuser.dat without deleting it?
The question came from one of our customers. He works with roaming profiles
and with the time the ntuser.dat file gets very big, and the workstations
become very slow.

Many thanks in advance.

Tool to clean Registry

2001-09-11 Thread Patrick Straub

Hi all

I have a customer with W95/W98/NT4 systems.
We have implemented a DHCP/DNS solution for him, but as all systems already
have old DNS/DHCP entry in the IP properties, those sent from the DHCP
server are overwritten with the local ones.

Is there a tool (maybe remote), with which I can delete the local DNS/DHCP
entries on all the systems?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Best Regards, Patrick

RE: DNS Problems (still)

2001-09-06 Thread Patrick Straub

Hi Neil

Have you tried to use nslookup? What do you get if you just enter nslookup
at the command prompt? Can you see your DNS server? Are you using DHCP? If
Yes, does the client get all the options?
I think you should first look at those things.
Let me know.

Best regards, Patrick

Subject: DNS Problems (still)

Hi, all.

Ok, problem is the same - I ping an IP address, I get a reply. I ping the
same address, but use its host name which in this case is xyz.balears.net,
and get "bad IP address". This is the same for any host. All the clients
on the network are fine, just the server doing this. We are connected to a
router and adsl line, gateway is 195.168.0.l5.

Yesterday, the server just stopped being able to see hostnames. Could it
be a virus ? I had sircam on a client and that did something similar.
scanning isn't showing anything, so

I'm going mad with this - I've reinstalled tcp/ip, service packed, plus
other stuff. I added static entries to the hosts file, still no good. It
will ping local client machines by name, just not internet names.

Any more inspirational ideas out there ?

Thanks again,

Neil Mac

  Hi
  there,

I’m interested on peoples views on
  different disk imaging software.

I need a piece of software that will take a
complete image of a servers (W2K) raid hard disk(s) and allow me to put the
image back on to the disks in the event of a complete failure.  Has anybody used any software that
allows them to say boot from floppy and restore from
  tape.

  Thanks
