UPS support for free version of VMWare ESXi

2009-11-27 Thread Shazad Anwar

Hi,

I'm looking to setup free version of VMware ESXi on 2 of our
production servers but have come accross issue when looking into
UPS support. It seems RCLI no longer works with free version of
ESXi and due to this APC no longer support ESXi and scripts found
in VMware community forums also no longer work.

Is their no longer simple way to setup UPS with free version of
ESXi or have I made mistake in my research?

Thanks,

Shazad

RE: UPS support for free version of VMWare ESXi

2009-11-27 Thread Shazad Anwar

I appreciate the help but I've got zero Linux skills so I rather
not go down unsupported CLI route. Even though I prefer ESXi I'm
going to have look at Hyper-V as that's seems to be fully
supported by APC and very easy to setup.

There is an unsupported CLI _ON_ the ESXi box itself… goggle will
give you the steps (basically hit “F2” and type ‘unsupported’).
Perhaps you can get things working there? The OS is rather paired
down tho… it’s a the BusyBOx distribution of Linux, IIRC. The
VMWare commands are there (ie vmfsktools, etc…), so maybe you’ll
have what you need?

Something I could be a bit granular with. I don’t want to backup

If it could be managed from a console, great.
Any ideas?

Hi Sam,

I'm not using partial file updating myself but I've seen it used on

I would try emailing the developer as he's usually very helpful.

2008-12-31 Thread Shazad Anwar

Hi,

I've not seen this article but I'm not getting any errors relating to
Microsoft Exchange Replication Service.

Whenever I try to run full backup I get the following warnings/errors:

Warning - Volume Shadow Copy Service warning: ASR writer Error
0x80070001. hr = 0x. (Event ID:12290)
Error - Shadow copy creation failed because of error reported by ASR
Writer. More info: Incorrect function. (0x80070001). (Event ID:16387)

The only useful information I've found is in this TechNet thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/9cf42e8a-2a33-47c5-a797-269330e9ba1a/

From this thread it says system partition must be set as active.

Hi,

I'm currently running Exchange 2007 SP1 on Server 2008 (Dell Poweredge

I currently use Backup Exec 12.5 to backup System State and Exchange
databases.

I'm trying to use Windows Server Backup to create a full backup of the
server but it keeps failing wikth this error:

Backup started at '27/12/2008 19:18:44' failed as Volume Shadow copy
operation failed for backup volumes with following error code
'2155348129'. Please rerun backup once issue is resolved.

From looking up this error on google it seems C: drive should be
active partition for Shadow Copy to work but on my server a small Dell
partition has been set active.

Has anyone encountered this problem and know of a fix?

Thanks,

Try Storagecraft ShadowProtect Desktop. I've found it to be better than
Acronis and Symantec BESR.

One of the best features I've found is you can mount backup images as a

Afternoon all.

I have a need to backup an XP desktop which has about 400GB of data to a
NAS on a nightly basis.

I need to be able to backup locked files as the user does not log out.

We've been using Symantec BESR, but it ALWAYS shows an error for one
reason or another including the fact that the pagefile drive (dedicated
partition) is not being backed up.

What do you guys recommend for use on a single, standalone, non-AD
machine?

Media kit for older Microsoft products

2008-04-30 Thread Shazad Anwar
Hi,

I think I'm chasing a lost cause but does anyone know where I can obtain
media kit for volume license copy of Microsoft Project 2002?

I've tried without any luck:

* Microsoft - As they no longer support the product they won't
supply a media kit

* Local MS Reseller - Cannot obtain media kit for MS software
that is more than 2 generations old

* eOpen site - Again can only download software that is current
and 1 generation old (Project 2003 and 2007)

* Google - Cannot find any company online with media kit in
stock

Microsoft part number/SKU is: 076-02499

Licenses for this software were purchased by a previous IT admin and as
we have 19 licenses I'm hoping I can find a media kit.

Any help would be appreciated.

I contacted someone through the Microsoft eOpen site explaining that I
had multiple licenses for Project 2002 but couldn't download the
software. I asked how I could obtain a media kit for the software. They
said contact your local reseller, I did this but they couldn't help me.

I've just done a quick Google on Microsoft World Wide Fulfillment and
found:

http://selectug.mslicense.com/L1033/additionalreplacementproducts.aspx

The above site says contact your local reseller and you can only get CD
replaced that are current or 1 generation old.

I'm in the UK, who should I be looking to contact at MS to see if it is
possible to obtain media for older products?

RE: Media kit for older Microsoft products

2008-04-30 Thread Shazad Anwar
I don't have a subscription but I've emailed a colleague who I think has
a subscription.

If I don't have any luck getting hold of a media kit then I'll look into
purchasing a TechNet subscription.

online activation, I don't think so... the download page shows No key
is required for this product for the standard version. So hopefully
you, or someone on your staff has a technet subscription (or MSDN ?)

Hi,

It's the Standard version.

Do you know software downloaded from TechNet contain online activation?
My volume license keys didn't work with Retail Project 2002 disk but
might work with TechNet/MSDN downloaded software.

Shazad

Well, it seems they still have Project 2002 on the Technet Downloads,
wonder if your license keys would work with the Technet copy ? (you got
standard or professional ?)

There should be media somewhere. We recently had to order Office XP
developer. Try ringing the replacement media line from Microsoft direct.
