RE: OT - Parental Controls
Both openDNS and K-9 are great and I have been using them for several months. However, I have also looked at the paid/subscription software and haven't found one that allows for restricting the internet to a few sites based on the hour of the day. It would be great if there is a product that would allow facebook/games/etc for certain hours of the day and leave internet connectivity open for other sites for homework/school research for the rest of the day. For facebook, my rule is simple.. You are allowed to use facebook if I know the password. You lose access the day you change the password and don't let me know about it... RE: OT - Parental Controls
Actually, it is more than two :) Most kids have three or four accounts but the most common usage is for games -- cheating and giving each other points/gifts/etc. K-9 also has a web-history - quite slow, but very handy. ___ Suhail A. Re: So, I'm up late patching systems, and getting cranky...
Sorry for the thread hijack, but I noticed that this may be worthwhile for people as they may have started patching as the weekend approaches. I was under the impression that only the systems listed at Microsoft's site for MS08-067 require patching. Apparently, the list is fairly long and as simply put by Microsoft's CSS Security, Any OS that Microsoft currently supports requires this patch. I had called to ask if Win2K3 Enterprise required the patch as it is not listed in the bulletin. Consequently, I copied this entire list for our support staff from Symantec's update: Microsoft Patch Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB958644) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=F26D395D-2459-4E40-8C92-3DE1C52C390Ddisplaylang=en Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2 Microsoft Patch Security Update for Windows Server 2003 for Itanium-based Systems (KB958644) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AB590756-F11F-43C9-9DCC-A85A43077ACFdisplaylang=en Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition Itanium Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition Itanium SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition Itanium SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Itanium Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Itanium SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Itanium SP1 Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Itanium Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Itanium SP1 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Itanium SP2 Microsoft Patch Security Update for Windows Vista (KB958644) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=18FDFF67-C723-42BD-AC5C-CAC7D8713B21displaylang=en Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows Vista beta Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 1 Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Microsoft Windows Vista beta 2 Microsoft Windows Vista Business Microsoft Windows Vista Business SP1 Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise SP1 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Microsoft Patch Security Update for Windows Vista (KB958644) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A976999D-264F-4E6A-9BD6-3AD9D214A4BDdisplaylang=en Microsoft Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition?
