Backup Exec 2010 r2
Anyone use Backup Exec here? I've just applied the latest patches and am seeing now that when I create a new job, the remote agents aren't able to be discovered. A bug perhaps? Odd behaviour at any rate. Dude. Many of the comments in this list are often: 1) Suggestions that will get your ass out of a sling in the future 2) Ideas you can tuck away for future implementation 3) Damn good best practices 4) An indication that your initial post was rather incomplete and left us with no evidence you had done your due diligence and thus left us with no choice but to assume you were as clueless about implementation as you were to posting to mailing lists. Now maybe _YOU_ get your panties in a wad when somebody points out an issue that you might be able to rectify PRIOR to it becoming a problem. The rest of us have thicker skin and recognize the value therein. Wow, I guess it’s true … No good deed ever goes unpunished. The expressed skepticism *could* prompt you to test a restore *BEFORE* it possibly proves to be a critical failure to VERIFY that the restore function works as you expect. I have in the past seen folks lose their jobs from inability to perform a restore within claimed timeframes for failure to test prior to critical needs, where exceeding the planned and communicated restore window had a major negative impact on business operations. Some experience with vRanger – a little bit of a pain to set up, amazing when it works; however, SAN or NAS issues cripple it. Also has problems with very large (1TB+) VMs – the ESX server has a tendency to get stuck forever at taking the snapshot of the VM and you'll lose some performance not to mention a failed backup or twelve. File level restore of Windows guests is an amazing feature though. Veeam is good for monitoring and mapping your vmware environment. It (Veeam reporter, at least) is licensed per processor (not per core) if you're over 6 procs. If you need to be able to monitor server sprawl (if that is a problem for you) then I would recommend it. Needless to say, it is a luxury, not a requirement. In my little ideal world, I wouldn't want to run without it. But could I? Sure thing. Jonathan L. RE: Backup exec 2010 r2
No, I think the idea was that it would keep two boxes synchronous, so that if the VM failed on one, I could bring the same, exact VM up on another machine easily. -Original Message- From: Garcia-Moran, Carlos [mailto:cgarciamo...@spragueenergy.com] Sent: Monday, November 15, 2010 4:23 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Backup exec 2010 r2 They have products to enhance management and backup virtual guests, but you dont NEED them in order to run VM's -Original Message- From: John Aldrich [mailto:jaldr...@blueridgecarpet.com] Sent: Monday, November 15, 2010 4:17 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Backup exec 2010 r2 Anyone here able to speak about something called VEEAM? RE: Backup exec 2010 r2
The plan was to have VEEAM running to keep two physical machines in sync running the same VMs on both (or at least having a hot backup of the other server on another physical machine) and to use something like Backup Exec to back up the VMs. From: Harry Singh [mailto:hbo...@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, November 15, 2010 4:28 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Re: Backup exec 2010 r2 I'm torn between getting the licenses necessary to augment my current BE 2010 setup, VEAM or vRanger for backing up my VM's. curious to see if anyone has any experiences with any of these platforms.
