I've only ever looked at DPM WRT to MOSS 2007, and whilst it's a great backup 
tool, restoration leaves a lot to be desired. For backup/restore of files, it 
probably works great. Dealing with MOSS 2007 probably introduces a bunch of 
complexity that DPM doesn't handle well yet.

It does D2D, D2D2D, D2D2T and any combination of those options. One thing that 
is really nice is that DPM is DPM aware, so you can back one server to another 
with very few clicks on the 2nd server.

It works very well over a WAN. It is VSS based, so yes it is block level. I had 
issues with DoubleTake losing connection and not picking back up over my WAN 
links, but I have not had that problem since changing to DPM.

Well, TVK had the right answer (DPM 2007 with a SAN in the backend); but
it's not the cheapest solution by far.

 

That's why I ask.

 

You can get really cheap disk these days. And yes DPM can do offsite
recovery.

I don't really have a hard and fast number. I'd have to throw it out there
and see if it sinks. Does DPM have the ability to handle off site disaster
recovery. For instance if our building burned down? I am looking for a

I don't really have a hard and fast number. I'd have to throw it out
there and see if it sinks. Does DPM have the ability to handle off site
disaster recovery. For instance if our building burned down? I am
looking for a replacement for our tape solution.
