My Sunbelt/NT label in Gmail has 24018 threads, dating back to
15-JUN-2005. That's when I started using this account for the
purpose. I have older stuff in an old mbox archive somewhere at home,
prolly dating back to circa 2001 or so. So far, Gmail's quota growth
has kept pace with list traffic.  I'd prolly drop other lists first;
this one isn't archived very well. (Lyris's archives are closed, and
I have to re-sub mail-archive.com on occasion.)

Subject: OT: Do you do personal archiving of list email

I am marking this as OT to keep it friendly. I am wondering if anyone is doing
personal archiving of the NT Sys Admim emails? If so how far back are you
going?

Re: OT: Do you do personal archiving of list email

2012-02-21 Thread Jon Harris
I am not sure how far back I go for sure. I have been archiving stuff
since I got on the list in about 97 I think. I am trying to clear out one
of my web email accounts at the moment and it goes back to at least 2004 so
far.

Re: OT: Do you do personal archiving of list email

2012-02-21 Thread John Cook
I actually have some of the daily digests back to 2001. My mailbox limits at my
previous gig wouldn't allow me much storage so I saved the daily digest as text
files for reference.

I've been a lot more aggressive about deleting emails now than a year
ago, but that's because gmail has been warning me about my limits -
I'm at something over 93% full.

However, this list is the one I keep the most of, by far.

In my gmail mailbox I have stuff going back to at least 2004.

Somewhere I have some PST files that go back further than that, but I
couldn't lay my metaphorical fingers on them without a major search of
the house.

I have used two email providers prior to my gmail account - spro.net
and lightmail.com or .net, I can't remember which any more, but if I
googled myself I'd find them, I guess.
