Re: OT: SIP WIFI phones

2010-12-27 Thread Kurt Buff
Thanks for the heads-up.

This is a random, quiet-day musing, but I'm going to see if I can get
approval to do a proof of concept with a VM and a couple of phones.

I'll probably ping you in a couple of days for more info.

Thanks!

Kurt

Avoid F1000 phones - limited software and kind of crappy connectivity. F1000G
should be okay if you can find someone selling them - the vendor that said they
had F1000Gs turned out to actually have F1000s which I realized after they had
been delivered. (In F1000G boxes, of course)

Otherwise I've had pretty good luck with Wifi phones on my Asterisk server -
you're welcome to reply off-list so I can send you the details if you're
interested.

OT: SIP WIFI phones

2010-12-27 Thread Kurt Buff
We have a Shoretel system, and I'd really like to get some WIFI phones
for it, for my own selfish purposes - I want to be able to reach out
to my minions while they're away from their desks.

Unfortunately management isn't ready yet to buy the SIP gateway for
Shoretel, so I'm wondering if any of you have played with asterisk and
wifi phones, and a) what your results were, and b) if you have used
phones that you especially liked or disliked.

Our wireless infrastructure is a set of Cisco 1240AG WAPs plugged into
HP 2600-PWR switches, and use is pretty light at the moment, so I
think this is pretty doable.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kurt
