Unfortunately not.

I recently tried it in a white-box server with an LSI Logic MegaRAID
300-8X SATA controller - no dice, I had to get the data off and rebuild
the array in order to expand it :(

Well it worked like a champ on my HP... and I believe (like said below)
that it should work on any controller.

Make sure you have a backup on hand!

FYI - to give you an idea of time...

I replaced (4) 72GB U320 15k drives w/ (4) 300GB U320 15k drives. Each
drive took 30 minutes to rebuild.

This was on a controller w/ 128BBWC and set to "high priority" for
rebuild. Also done off-hours (no load on the server)

I have not expanded the array to utilize the extra space yet though.

YMMV

There was some talk on here in the last week or two about upgrading
drives in a raid array on a dell server.

One procedure was to pull one drive, replace it with a bigger one, let
the array rebuild. Continue this process until all drives are replaced,
then use diskport to expand the volume.

Does anyone know if this process will work on ad Dell 745 nas with the
CERC SATA controller?

Thanks.

Glen.
