I would
recommend using Automated. Just read the prompts carefully in the Interview
stage.

Subject: SmartStart Question

As I
mentioned here before, it has been a number of years since I worked with Compaq
equipment.

And it
also appears that I was never properly instructed in the use of SmartStart. But
since I am such a wizbang kid these days, I have figured it out.

But I
wonder one thing. Do you guys recommend doing the Manual or the Automated setup
routine?

Just so
we are all on the same page, this would be SS5 and W2K

Re: SmartStart Question

2001-08-28 Thread Ernest . Dinda

We do the quick config instead of following the GUI in smartstart. Then we
load the server O/S wiht our unattended builds. You can access the quick
config by pressing F10 once the GUI just starts, ie that red screen with the
van , etc. appears. Then you can choose the language and then you get a menu
to choose what to install. For example we choose 1 for english and then 2 to
Configure System and create System Partition.

You can also use their scripting tools to create a pre-canned config and just
flash it completely in an unattended build, skipping the smartstart
completely. This however requires that same hardware, cards, cards in the same
slots, etc.

Thanks
