Title: RE: User List

Don't forget DameWare - www.dameware.com - 30 day eval from there or www.bhs.com - several different modules for User Admin, exporting user / computer / share -lists and a superb self-installing (on demand) remote control program - WELL worth a look - I wouldn't be with out it!!

Did you check the pricing?    Hyena is really a bargain compared to a lot
of other software.    We are at the point where the command decision has
been made that we will convert all of our existing Netware trees and NT
domains to Win2k, but we dont have budget approval yet.   I estimated 3
million, someone above me changed it to 1.2 million.   But the line item
for Hyena, even for 25 users, is completely off the radar there.

I downloaded the eval for Hyena, and you're right, I'm very impressed.
Haven't played too much, but exporting the user list as comma delimited and
into Excel was awesome.  Just what the boss wanted.  Now, I need to come up
with a list of other things to impress him with, so I can get him to buy
the
software.  Do you know of some "hidden" stuff?  What other applications
would you use it for, besides the obvious of daily user administration?

When I saw the original question, I thought "That man needs to try the
30 day eval of Hyena.".  Not only will Hyena give a nicely printed out
list of the users, it can dump that info to a tab-delimited file and
you can bring it into Excel and massage the info easily.  Not commercially
affiliated, just a very satisfied customer.  Try it!  You'll like it!

(It's valuable for when the boss says, "Who has access to X share" or
"Who's on the admin lists in Y domain".)

We have "real" copies of Hyena - it's highly useful and very attractively
priced - but thanks all for their info (including Kevin for this tip) since
I
haven't yet managed to make Hyena categorize my workgroup web servers.

RE: User List

2001-08-28 Thread Scales, Shane G., SPC

Here are a couple of KB Articles for you to review about listing usernames
and how to prevent non-admins from viewing them.
Q180782
Q177077
Q149781
Q143474.
We use account lockout consistently in the military and haven't had any
problems that I am aware of. I have had local admin accounts locked out on
member servers before but NT 4.0 will allow a locked-out admin account to
logon locally to the server to unlock itself. I hope that this information
helps,
