RE: Very slow logon with Multiple Nics
Found the problem. Each server had DNS Services started on it and by default during installation assigned "loopback" as the DNS entry on the active card. Of course, DNS was empty and it ignored the "hosts" file. I removed DNS Services from every machine but the PDC and things started working! There is a Q article that deals with this...Q261007. RE: Very slow logon with Multiple Nics
Are all the NIC's the same brand and type? Otherwise, you are going to have problems teaming them. (Duh). Also, as was suggested earlier, you will want to disable those NIC's until you can team them. Fortunately, it is really easy to do in W2K. Don't even have to reboot. RE: Very slow logon with Multiple Nics
I don't know if 2000 is the same, but I have done the same type of thing in NT4. There are several knowledge base articles on this for NT 4 also. What happens is the network stack sends out a probe on all nics. Then waits for all of them to return, instead of using the first return. I have never had more than about a two minute wait, so I never tweaked this problem. Re: Very slow logon with Multiple Nics
.. you'll need to disable all those NIC's that are not in use.
