RE: ninite.com in use out there?

2010-07-09 Thread Tom Miller
Is that cost per month totally or per month per machine? If that is per
month per machine you could get a systems management product for that
cost. SCCM is a fine management product. I moved to the KBOX (Dell
owned) a few months ago. That's well suited for small to mid-size orgs.

I didn’t think they hosted the items, just went and downloaded them.

SCCM has been advised for the Museum, but you are right, it isn’t for
me, though I may still have to implement it…

Aside from the somewhat dubious legality of them “hosting” other
vendor’s applications, I’ve always heard good things about them.

In an mid-size enterprise environment, I’d recommend you use group
policy to roll-out the applications you want installed and uninstalled.
(In a larger environment, something like SCCM would be appropriate, but
I know it isn’t for you!) J

I have used this on a couple of boxes for other people and had good
results. But I wanted to check with any of you who have used it. I
don’t/wouldn’t mind paying for something like that here at the
Museum, but they want $20-30/month. Adds up to some nice change over a
year. Anyone used anything similar?

They bundle them together into a single archive and installer and you download
that from their site...

I suspect that MSFT and Adobe would consider that "hosting". :-P

Uh...y'all aren't big enough for SCCM. WDS, sure. But full-fledged SCCM? All
IMHO...
