That depends on how you set it up. I don't like the idea of AD
integration, so I require a separate login - accounts that are local
to the SonicWall.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I'll take the plunge. I was concerned that the
remote desktop was buggy, but it seems that everyone is happy with its
function.

Do the users log in one time with their Active Directory credentials? Or do
they log in to the appliance with one set of credentials and then into the
network/rdp session with their AD credentials? Or do they use their AD
credentials to log in to the appliance and then log into the other apps with
the AD credentials as well?

Thanks,

Bill

Linux clients (FreeBSD, too) work just fine if you have a Java JRE/JDK
installed and cooperating with the web browser.

As a matter of fact, just this evening I tried out an SSHv2 client
from home, and it works like a champ.

Bill,

I've had one of these boxes for about four years. I have never had a problem
with it and our employees love the ability to remote into their XP desktops
from home. It works from both Macs and PCs. I haven't tried a Linux client
but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Although I don't give employees
access through the NetExtender client, I have used it with remote vendors or
when I'm out of town in a hotel or from a cellular card. Sonicwall has been
good at updating the firmware, including enhancements and bug fixes. In fact,
Sonicwall is having a webinar on Wednesday regarding features in version 3.5 of
the firmware.

It has made life much easier than dealing with VPNs from employee's homes. I
highly recommend it.

I'm looking at the Sonicwall SSL 2000
http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/510.html as a clientless VPN to access
remote desktop on our WinXP Pro desktops. I've heard a number of things all
over the board about Sonicwall as a company, but does anyone have experience
with this product in particular?

Thanks for any feedback,

Bill

I installed one very recently, and am happy with it - my troubles were
definitely self-inflicted. Support was a bit snippy with me, but once
I figured out that I had two machines fighting over the same external
IP address, it was pretty straightforward.

*That* was fairly embarrassing.

I've got clients using both the ActiveX and Java clients for RDP, and
Java for the file shares, but I haven't set up any web site forwarding
yet, nor the NetExtender. Have to do that soon.

I configured one for remote access (browser-based access to UNC shares
and RDP) and it works well. I don't have experience with the
NetExtender side of the product. Integrated fine with SecurID via
RADIUS. Their support runs the gamut, as you've probably gleaned from
this list.

As I've mentioned before, I do believe they have some issues in how the
company approaches security, but most of those can be mostly mitigated
by proper policy/procedures on your end.
