We've got something like that for our old financial software, too.
I've got a virtual NT4 server (PDC and file), a virtual Win98 client
to log in to it, and a virtual switch to connect the two. All I need
is some virtual dust to blow off it when they ask to retrieve
something (exceedingly rare, fortunately).

Re: Terminal Server Problem

2010-09-24 Thread Jeff Steward
I tested that when I duplicated the problem for the OP and it did not fix
the issue. The issue lies with the change in default security zone settings
and adding the banking site to the Trusted Sites zone fixes the problem.

I'm sure I saw some statistic from about a year or so ago that said 1 in 8
Windows servers in service were still running NT4. I have no idea whether it
was accurate or how they arrived at that statistic though.

RE: Terminal Server Problem

2010-09-23 Thread Free, Bob
The very last one we had was also a SQL box that had a proprietary db on
it no one could figure out how to migrate (or more likely would take on
the risk). Of course it was mission critical. I had to maintain the NT
domain & NT4 trust to AD just for that one app. We told them all bets
were off if the domain fell over, the DCs were like 8 or 9 yrs old and
no parts, unsupported HW, unsupported OS...you know the drill. They
filed an exception with extension after extension from the compliance
folks till they finally replaced it. I was a happy camper to finally
whack that last NT 4 trust.

This particular client is a small company that doesn't like to spend money
on IT. They also like to manage the servers themselves which is part of
the reason they're in the mess they're in.

I wondered that myself. I figured anyone still running a W2K DC must be
hurting for resources and maybe they have some weird business need for it.
It makes me wonder how many NT4 networks might still be out there...

I can confirm that rbc and scotia bank return blank pages on a W2K3 TS
session with IE8. If I have time I will see if I can't figure out why this
is so.

rbc and scotia bank for example.

This is internal on the LAN using the terminal server for browsing, email
and apps.

The workstations have no problems browsing. It's strictly and
IE8/Terminal server issue.

Terminal Server Problem

2010-09-23 Thread Shawn Everett
Hi Guys,

I have a client with the following setup:
- Windows 2000 Domain Controller
- Windows 2003 Terminal Server

They were running IE6 on the terminal server quite successfully. Their on
site IT guy decided to upgrade them to IE8. There seems to be quite a few
issues browsing the web now.

All users including the Administrator user are getting blank pages
visiting various banking sites. You Tube is sketchy and the overall
browsing experience isn't working correctly.

In a no doubt related problem, they can't print emails from Outlook 2003
anymore.

I tried removing the IE Enhanced Security and setting the IEHarden
registry key to 0 (From: support.microsoft.com/kb/933991) but with no
luck. I even tried reinstalling IE8 but didn't expect that to work.

I'm fresh out of ideas and would appreciate any thoughts the list could
provide.

Shawn
