[nycwireless] measuring cellular activity?

One indirect way you might want to investigate thru back issues of 2600 using older telephones: Some Nokia telephones have a diagnostic mode that let's you see all the telephones being dialed into the reverse channel. If you can see all the phone numbers going into the cell site, you can infer one phone per cellfone. If there are multiple attempts, someone is retrying the number. All the gear you need is a specific model Nokia cellphone and a pc for data collection. The funny thing is if there is a crime or accident in the area, you can tally all the 911 calls. The info comes out a common serial comport that is a standard for most contempoaray pcs. If you don't have access to any 2600 issues, you can hear the radio show Off the hook at the 2600.org site.
