[nysbirds-l] Queens County Bird Club - Upcoming Meeting - Wed. 12/14 - "Calibirdication"

2016-12-12 Thread Nancy Tognan
The Queens County Bird Club will be meeting at the Alley Pond Environmental
Center, 228-06 Northern Blvd Douglaston, NY 11362
>Map of location<

at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Free admission. Refreshments
served (featuring egg-nog flavored ice cream)

Public transportation users: Meeting location is one mile from Bayside LIRR
station; you may either walk, take the Q12 bus, or use car service located
at station.

Arie Gilbert and Lisa Scheppke present "Calibirdication: Two weeks of
overly? ambitious birding that proved remarkably successful"

California is a very large and picturesque state. The opportunities for
great birding abound, especially if one is from the east coast. On June 13,
Lisa Scheppke was asked if she wanted to bird California. That request came
from Arie Gilbert. Deep down, they knew it would be a very good trip, but
both knew that birders have idiosyncrasies. Arlene Rawls joined in, and a
plan was finalized. But can three birders spend that much time together
without driving each other crazy?

[nysbirds-l] Cackling Goose VCP Bronx Co.

2016-12-12 Thread Andrew Baksh
Mei Yee and I just found a Cackling Goose in a flock of about 1100 Canada Geese
on the Parade Grounds at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

This is a classic looking Cackling, presumably Richardson's and should not be
too difficult to pick out from the flock.

Cheers,
