[nysbirds-l] Turkey Hunting Season opens tomorrow

Just a reminder - turkey season starts tomorrow , May 1st, morning through much 
of New York State (except NYC and Nassau Count). Hunters may be afield just 
before sunrise through noon till the end of the month. Keep that in mind as you 
go birding.

Highlights on a morning of mist, showers, and rain: Wood Thrush, Purple Finch, 
Hooded Warbler. 

Canada Goose - 10-15
Mallard - 5-10
Mourning Dove - 15-20
Herring Gull - 4-5 flyovers
Double-crested Cormorant - 5-8
Black-crowned Night-Heron - 1 adult east side of the Lake
Red-tailed Hawk - second-year Belvedere Castle
Great Horned Owl - 1 continued (David Barrett)
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 4-6
Downy Woodpecker - 3
Northern Flicker - 1 male in Ramble
Blue-headed Vireo - 3-4
Blue Jay - 15-18
American Crow - 2 in Ramble
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 14-16
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 south side of Turtle Pond
Carolina Wren - pair east side of Ramble

Erica Rosengart reported two Eastern Kingbirds at the Humming Tombstone and a 
Nashville Warbler at the south end of Maintenance Field.

Ryan Serio reported an Orchard Oriole at the Oven and Gadwall on the Lake.

Howard Katz reported a Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the Oven.
