[nysbirds-l] Call to action: NATURE PRESERVES IN NASSAU COUNTY ENDANGERED

2024-01-22 Thread russ
At an environmental review on January 18, 2024, South Shore Audubon submitted
spoken and written comments for the record that the nature preserves bordering
the proposed Nassau Hub will be endangered by this large-scale development.

A copy of South Shore Audubon’s written comments can be found here:

A link to the proposed Nassau Hub project’s relevant documents including the
Environmental Assessment Forms, Draft Scope, and Conceptual Master Plan can be
found here:

SSAS written comments urge careful consideration be made of the Hub project's
potential environmental impacts on Hempstead Plains Preserve and Francis T.
Purcell Preserve. Both preserves border the proposed Nassau Hub.

URGENT CALL TO ACTION: Please review and submit your comments on the
environmental impact of the Nassau Hub. Comments will be accepted online by the
Town of Hempstead until February 20th, 2024 at this link:
* https://hempsteadny.gov/1044/Public-Comments

SAMPLE 500-CHARACTER COMMENT (you can edit):
* “If the Nassau Hub proposal is developed without critical environmental
considerations and concessions, it can have a huge and irreparable impact on
neighboring nature preserves that are Nassau County’s last bastion of the
ecologically and historically important Hempstead Plains grassland ecosystem
which includes NYS endangered and threatened LI grassland obligate species. It
could finish off the last remnants of the Hempstead Plains ecosystem forever.
Please do not let this happen. Thank you.”
If 500 characters is not enough, you may email longer comments to TOH Town
Clerk, Kate Murray at kmur...@hempsteadny.gov mailto:kmur...@hempsteadny.gov.

Thank you for your care and concern to conserve Nassau County’s natural
heritage and Long Island’s remaining wildlife havens.
