[nysbirds-l] Western Kingbird, Brooklyn (Kings county)

2018-10-08 Thread Heydi Lopes
A Western Kingbird was seen briefly at Marine Park late this afternoon. It
perched in two different trees in a brushy area (which can be accessed via
E 38th street "entrance") before it flew off in the direction of the ball
field. Josh Malbin and Juan Salas joined me to try and re-find the bird.
Despite searching till around 6:30 pm, we were unsuccessful in our attempt
to re-find it.

[nysbirds-l] ebird report of Ash-throated Flycatcher at Marine Park, Brooklyn 12.05.16

2016-12-05 Thread Heydi Lopes
There is an e-bird report (via ebird alerts) from this morning,12/5/16, of
an Ash-throated flycatcher at Marine Park in Brooklyn. Bobbi Manian is
there now and briefly saw a Myiarchus flycatcher but was not able to get a
good enough look to ID it before it disappeared from her view.

Just putting this out there if anyone wants to go look, as the bird may
still be in the area. The area that the bird was seen in can be accessed
from corner of East 38th street and Avenue U.

[nysbirds-l] Harlequin Duck, Dead Horse Bay, Brooklyn late Sunday (11/01/15)

2015-11-02 Thread Heydi
Late yesterday (11/01/15) afternoon, there was a female Harlequin Duck at Dead
Horse Bay in Brooklyn. It was very close to shore, near the pilings closest to
the Gil Hodges Bridge.

It was fairly dark when it flew off, around 5:15-5:30. It appeared to me that
it may have been flying in the direction of Plumb Beach or the Marina, but I
lost sight of it as it passed the point.

It could still be around...

[nysbirds-l] Brooklyn Sparrows - Marine Park Salt Marsh

2013-09-02 Thread Heydi Lopes
I birded the "back-trail" (the one that parallels the golf course) of the
Marine Park Salt Marsh late this afternoon, and re-found the Lark Sparrow
that was reported on Saturday, 8/31/13. I also found a Clay-colored
Sparrow. The Lark Sparrow was in the open area near the wildflower area,
and the Clay-colored was hanging out in the trees at the end of the trail,
right before you turn right to connect back to the main trail.

Rob Jett asked me to post to the list that the Ross's Goose is currently
being seen at the north side of the driving range at the Brooklyn Golf

[nysbirds-l] Floyd Bennett Field & Dead Horse Bay, Brooklyn 5/28/11

2011-05-28 Thread Heydi Lopes
There was a Mourning Warbler at Floyd Bennett Field this afternoon.
It was low in the shrubbery on the left side of the blind at the
Return-a-Gift Pond. Also of note was a White-winged Scoter at Dead
Horse Bay, near the Marina.

[nysbirds-l] Cattle Egret at Floyd Bennett Field

2010-10-10 Thread Heydi Lopes
There was a Cattle Egret at Floyd Bennett Field this morning. I saw
if fly in and land in the Community Gardens; it soon flew off and was
then moving around to several of the fields, feeding. Left Floyd
Bennett at around 10:30am and the bird was still present.

[nysbirds-l] Brown Pelican in Bklyn

2010-01-08 Thread Heydi Lopes
While at the Marine Park Salt Marsh today, at appx. 12:44pm, I spotted
a Brown Pelican being harassed by crows; it was flying from west to
east before I lost sight of it as it flew in the direction of the
Marine Park Golf Course. Managed to get one really bad photo:
