[nysbirds-l] Prothonotary warbler van Cortlandt park, Bronx

2015-05-23 Thread Mira Furgoch
Currently listening to and watching a prothonotary warbler on the NE side of
the van Cortlandt pk lake in the Bronx. Seen from the trail along the edge of
the lake.
The bird is singing and preening. It has a deformed lower mandible,
significantly longer that the upper mandible, but otherwise looks well.

Happy birding,
Mira Furgoch

[nysbirds-l] Iceland Gull in Central Park Reservoir

2014-03-18 Thread Mira Furgoch
March 17th, ~4:15pm

The Iceland Gull was seen, by scope, standing on the ice in the center of
the reservoir amongst Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. It was similar in size
to the Herring Gulls, with a mantle more pale than those of the surrounding
gulls, white wing tips, at a distance the bill looked completely black. I
am not a gull expert but this gave me the impression of 1st winter bird.
Unfortunately I do not have any photos.

Also seen in the reservoir were the previously reported Red-necked Grebe
and male Ring-necked Duck in the SE corner of the reservoir. I did not see
the American Wigeon. Full list is on ebird.

Cheers,
