[nysbirds-l] Common Loon
On the Delaware River just above Sparrowbush, NY a couple of days beck, I saw a waterfowl far off that I didn't pay too much mind to. An imm. Eagle made a halfhearted pass over this waterfowl and it called. It was the call of a common loon. It dove, but surfaced again, and was able to identify it by sight with binoculars. It seemed to be loitering in flat water 300 yds. or so upstream of Cherry Island. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --

It has a metal leg band - though no photos have been able to show what the band says. [nysbirds-l] Common Nighthawks, Sullivan Cty.
I spotted about a half dozen common nighthawks at 7 pm tonight; they were hawking for insects over Decker Rd in Glen Spey in Sullivan County. Winds were calm and clouds broken to overcast.
