RE: [nysbirds-l] Black Vultures Broome County

2017-03-01 Thread William Ostrander
Interesting – we had 8 on our Chemung Valley Audubon field trip last Saturday,
beating our County’s previous high of 2. Something must be up with Black
Vultures this winter-spring.

We had 7 black vultures today in Vestal, NY. This is a high count for our
county of which this specie is rare. Adrian Burke first found them this
morning.

[nysbirds-l] NYS 2016 Waterfowl County, Jan 16-24

2016-01-13 Thread William Ostrander
The annual New York State Winter Waterfowl Count period begins Saturday,
January 16 and ends Sunday, January 24. The target date is Sunday, January
17. Waterfowl to be counted include geese, swans, ducks, loons, grebes,
cormorants, and coots. If you would like to help survey New York's winter
waterfowl population, contact your regional coordinator who will be able to
direct you to a local coordinator. Your local coordinator can assign an
area or body of water to cover. You will find the contact information for
all the regional coordinators at http://nybirds.org/ProjWaterfowl.htm. The
Count is a joint project of the New York State Ornithological Association
and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
