Might as well throw in a few thousand Ospreys, as well, each with a different

RE: [nysbirds-l] Bob Kurtz, now passed

2017-09-28 Thread Deborah Martin
I was always happy when Bobby showed up to bird with us on Thursdays at
Hempstead Lake SP. He was generous in sharing all kinds of information about
our natural world and always welcomed me and shared his expertise at the hawk
watch as well. As a new birder, I never felt like I was bothering him to ask
to follow along as he birded or for an explanation when he commented on
something I did not understand.
I will think of him often at Hempstead and the hawk watch platform.
My condolences to his family and close friends.

Our dear friend Bobby Kurtz passed away today, after several months of illness.

Bobby was an unforgettable birder, whose enthusiasm added excitement to
our collective adventure of birds. Being with him was a natural part of
decades of discovery for us. We learned a lot together, and enjoyed it
all immensely.

Details of arrangements will follow soon.

Northwest winds are forecast tomorrow at the Fire Island hawkwatch,
where Bobby sought them so often.

Oh what sad news.

What a pleasure it was to know Bobby, if only a little bit via F.I.R.E.

A warm, generous guy with a ready laugh, and a very sharp birder (who
kindly taught me stuff).

There ought to be more Bobbys in this world.

Condolences to those close to Bobby, Pat and Shai and the whole F.I.R.E
crew and, of course, Bobby's other friends and family.

This comes as a total shock and explains why I did not see his familiar "two
pole" trekking on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay.

I don't have a lot of history with Bob as some of you but we had one thing in

East Pond.

May Bob find peace and lots of Raptors and Shorebirds wherever he is. Very,
very sad to hear this.

Subject: [nysbirds-l] Bob Kurtz, now passed

Our dear friend Bobby Kurtz passed away today, after several months of illness.

Bobby was an unforgettable birder, whose enthusiasm added excitement to
our collective adventure of birds. Being with him was a natural part of
decades of discovery for us. We learned a lot together, and enjoyed it
all immensely.

Details of arrangements will follow soon.

Northwest winds are forecast tomorrow at the Fire Island hawkwatch,
where Bobby sought them so often.
