[nysbirds-l] Bryant Park, Thu. 24-Sep-2009 incl. warblers & raptors

Date: Thursday, 24 September 2009 (12:45p-1:35p)
Location: Bryant Park
Reported by: Ben Cacace

The newly resodded Great Lawn wasn't attracting anything other than pigeons
and House Sparrows.

My species total for the park has increased again. This time by 2 to 35 with
the addition of Osprey and Broad-winged Hawk. Both migrating on variable
winds in mostly cloudy skies. See complete park list below. Turns out my
favorite month to visit the park is October.

The Northern Waterthrush continues in the storage area at the southeast
corner of the park west of the Outdoor Cafe. A map of the park can be found
here (click "View Map of Bryant Park" in the right sidebar):

http://www.bryantpark.org/the-grounds/overview.php

Both male and female American Redstarts were feeding in the storage area.
This location is a good spot for birds since people other than staff never
enter the area.

** Total species - 7 **

- Osprey - 1 heading due W at 12:48p
- Broad-winged Hawk - Small kettle of 8 E of the park

- Northern Waterthrush - 1 continues in the storage area @ the SE corner
