While trying to get in on a pretty much non existent migration flight at Fort Tilden, I stumbled upon a Cattle Egret loafing on the soccer/rugby fields. This one showed even less breeding plumes on its head than Rob Jett's Floyd Bennett Field bird and looked more like John Young's bird from Van Cortlandt Park.
Today's CAEG (Cattle Egret) makes it 3 seen for the month of October and 4 in total for the year for me, having seen one on the East Pond earlier in the year. With Peter Dorosh's report of another CAEG documented by Gus Keri at Bush Terminal Pier Park in Brooklyn. We could have at the moment 3-4 CAEG in play (not sure if the Bronx bird is still being seen). I wonder how many more we are missing that are out there in our area.
