For any New Yorkers near the Massachusetts border, an adult BARNACLE GOOSE that
has been around since 2/20 is still present at Mill Pond, a little pond at the
junction of routes 23 and 41 in SOUTH EGREMONT, MA. The bird hangs around with
that Canada Geese at the far western side of the pond. My deepest apologies for
the late post: I ran into some New Yorkers observing the bird today, and it
randomly occurred to me that this bird is still legitimate for the NY list. At
least the bird is still there! Mill/Smiley's pond is a great local hotspot that
often as other noteworthy water birds (from ducks to bitterns to terns and
shorebirds and rails) and sometimes Cackling Geese will show up in the flock
the Barnacle is in, though none have been noted this year.
