[nysbirds-l] Gray Kingbird on Staten Island, 9/22/22

2022-09-22 Thread Anthony Ciancimino
Just after 5PM this afternoon, Maya Shikhman found a Gray Kingbird by the
playground at Miller Field, on Staten Island’s eastern shore. Subsequent
efforts shortly after the initial sighting were not successful, however, there
are many areas in the general vicinity where an individual of the species can
linger.

Neighboring waterfront areas such as Midland & Cedar Grove Beaches, which both
touch Miller Field, may be worth checking tomorrow.

Good birding!

No entrance fee. It was seen near the entrance to the marina today 11/30 at
1:15 and 2:00, on both sides of the road, more recently on beach side. It
was a little farther north around midday. It is sometimes on low and
conspicuous ornamental shrubs right along the road. Relocates frequently.

Best,
Brendan

Three observers have been here since first light and the Kingbird has not been
seen yet.

It's a really beautiful spot though.

RE: [nysbirds-l] Gray Kingbird-Conesus Inlet-Sliker Hill Rd Livingston County

2016-05-03 Thread Wasilco, Mike R (DEC)
The gray kingbird was still present as of 1220pm today. It was in the cattails
and trees at the east end of the dike of the main impoundment, best viewed from
about 100m west of the spillway area. It was often perching in cattails
between foraging flights low over the water, but also occasionally perched on
various snags.

Hi all,

Ethan Gyllenhaal and I are viewing a Gray Kingbird from the dike at the Sliker
Hill Rd access spot at Conesus Inlet WMA. It is actively flycatching straight
out from the dike-viewed from the end of the concrete walk.

Good luck and will post more details later.

Re: [nysbirds-l] Gray Kingbird-Conesus Inlet-Sliker Hill Rd

2016-05-03 Thread Greg Lawrence
Andy Guthrie and others reported the bird from the same location this morning.
From the text alert:
"GRKI last seen back in reed bed straight out from path from parking area to
dike. Staying low in reeds and often not visible."

Also has been seen from the E end of the dike. Suggestion would be to spread
out along the dike and scan the snags and dead cattails. It may take a bit of
searching but it is still around.

Good luck to those who go!

[nysbirds-l] Gray Kingbird - JBWE

2011-10-15 Thread Michael McBrien
I just discovered a Gray Kingbird at the Coast Guard Station hedgerow
as of 10:15 am. It was being harassed by mockingbirds and flew east
toward the boat basin lot. It was last seen as it flew out of the
cedars at the east end of this parking lot; it continued east out of
sight.

Good birding,
Michael McBrien

Hi all,

Just wanted to clarify I did not first find the bird--credit should go to
Dominic Sherony. Poor but identifiable pictures were obtained and to my
knowledge it hasn't been relocated yet.
