[nysbirds-l] Marsh sparrows & egrets...all great !

2013-10-30 Thread robert adamo
Today, I had the pleasure of birding with fellow ELIAS members, Sally
Newbert & Suzi Stewart. We covered Dune Rd., from Shinnicock Inlet, Hampton
Bays to Jessup Lane, Westhampton Beach, finishing up in the middle
of Eastport Village viewing waterfowl and eating piazza.

It was a wonderful day to be out of doors, and although we didn't see many
birds, we did get great looks at Nelson & Seaside Sparrows ! Both species
were only about 20' away, and stayed up much longer than
*ammodramus*sparrows normally do. The Nelson's caused much excitement,
being a lifer
for Sally & Suzi, and a FOS for me ! We also had ~ 11 Great Egrets along
the way.

En-route back to Sally's in Eastport, we found a number of returning ducks
on the pond: Gadwall; A. Wigeon; Ring-necked; Ruddy, as well as a fairly
low Cooper's Hawk, which flew directly over our heads ! The piazza was
delicious !

Cheers,
Bob
