[nysbirds-l] NYC: Indigo Buntings - First of Season on Manhattan?
Yesterday birding at low tide on Sherman Creek produced Spotted Sandpiper and a Northern Waterthrush on the flats. The Waterthrush was spotted by another birder ... possibly from France. The birder that is not the bird. A pair of Indigo Buntings, male and female, were seen along the old "Compost Alley" at the east edge of the wood chip path along Sherman Creek. They were seen early on and returned to the same place later in the day. Full checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S19373373 I've developed a page on a website dedicated to eBird hotspots. Only New York County is complete and the Swindler Cove Park page is the most complete and includes a graphical tide map. It also has a Google Map I developed with arrows pointing to both the unofficial path down to the west end of the creek and the old "Compost Alley". The compost area has been moved to the enclosed area west of Sherman Creek. http://ebirding-nys.wikispaces.com/Swindler+Cove+Park+and+Sherman+Creek Ben Cacace Manhattan, NYC -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
