[nysbirds-l] Say's Phoebe - Coxsackie, The Greene County

2011-11-19 Thread Richard Guthrie
This morning I came across a SAY'S PHOEBE at the Coxsackie Grasslands, off
Rt 9-W in The Greene County. [about 1 mile south of Twy Exit 21-B]

The bird was actively feeding and flying about with a southerly directional
tendency before I left the vicinity to avoid chasing it as it was very
active.

Typical of phoebes, it was found feeding on insects on the side of a
sun-warmed building.

Although the bird was found in a restricted access area (please be mindful
of that), it may stick around and might relocate to a more public viewing
area.

If that be the case, it might find its way to the southern perimeter of the
preserve - the area across from Red's Restaurant or there-abouts.

In the process of taking a few nice crispy clear photos of Cattails and
goldenrod deadheads, I did manage to capture a fuzzy image of a rusty red
flycatcher type bird in the same pictures. [yes, I'm fixin to upgrade my
camera tool kit]

I plan to go back first thing tomorrow (Sunday) morning to see if it is in a
pattern and might still be present. Or not.

Either way, I'll post from the field.
