[nysbirds-l] Union Square Cooper's Hawk

2017-03-02 Thread Adam J. Nashban
Popped out of the subway at Union Square East and 15th. Looked up and saw a
large flock of Pigeon’s flying around. I am used to seeing lots of pigeons
around the square, but to see this many in flight is unusual.

Then saw the Cooper’s Hawk chasing and trying to pick one off. It tried a few
more times until it gave up.

2014-10-26 Thread Schlesinger, Lee
?An hour or so in Union Square Park in Manhattan this afternoon produced nice
results. Birds were quite active. In addition to the very common

common species), I noted:

Brown Creeper

Towhee

Catbird

many Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, often at arms-length distance

a couple of Golden-Crowned Kinglets

several Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers

Common Yellowthroat

Yellow-Rumped Warbler

CAPE MAY WARBLER

FOX SPARROW

[nysbirds-l] Union Square

2013-11-27 Thread Schlesinger, Lee
While at the Farmers Market in Union Square this morning, I saw a COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT hopping about some wreaths and holiday greenery.

The grounds of the park continue to be covered with White-Throated Sparrows and
Juncos and probably other things...

[nysbirds-l] Union Square NYC

2012-10-13 Thread Schlesinger, Lee

--A quick stroll through Union Square Park, without binoculars and with a lot
of green-market stuff, produced a small flock of Robins, a small flock of
White-Throated Sparrows, a number of Sapsuckers (5+?) chasing each other
around, one or two Hermit Thrushes, at least one Yellow-Rumped Warbler, and a
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet. Also, high (VERY high) overhead, three all-white birds
(NOT gulls or Snow Geese)--their flight style suggested Egrets, but it was VERY
high for Egrets, though not so high for Swans. Suggestive...
