[nysbirds-l] West End/Jones Beach, NY

I took a walk down to the WE2 jetty this morning, then headed north along the
inlet and through the Fisherman's Parking Area. Birding highlights included 250
Common Eider on the east side of the jetty, in addition to seven Purple
Sandpipers. The recent cold snap has apparently impacted waterfowl - I observed
two female Common Mergansers in Jones Inlet. In addition to Corey's 22 American
Pipits near the Nature Center (I later observed eighteen), I recorded an
additional sixteen Pipits in the median west of the Jones Beach Water Tower,
for a total of 34 Pipits (or 38 Pipits).

Ocean Parkway Closure Update

News 12 LI indicated at about 3:00PM this afternoon that law enforcement
authorities will decide tonight whether to continue the search along Ocean
Parkway for evidence related to the discovery of the four bodies east of Gilgo
Beach.
