FW: [nysbirds-l] Holly Wilson, 1986-2017
Sorry for the reposting, I just found this out. Holly's husband and family ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to one of the organizations below. Donors Choose - https://www.donorschoose.org/ This is a crowd funding site for educators, and connects teacher in high-needs communities with donors. Holly was an ESL teacher in the School of Discovery and Exploration in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, PS503. She taught mainly kindergarten and first graders who spoke Chinese, Spanish, Urdu, and many other languages, and was often their first contact in the English-speaking community. Helping out in the classrooms with the literacy side of their education, she brought them from having no English at all to being able to speak and read it. She loved her 'babies' and stood up for them at every opportunity. New York State Ornithological Association - http://www.nybirds.org/FedDonations.htm We all know how important this organization is to the birding community and to conservation and education in general. Thank you all again for your comforting words and thoughts. Pat and Shai Begin forwarded message Subject: [nysbirds-l] Holly Wilson, 1986-2017 Date: 11/09/17 09:43:43 AM From: "Patricia Lindsay"To: "NYS Birds" A great many of our friends in the New York birding community knew Holly Wilson, our beloved niece, frequent birding companion, and vibrant young woman. We lost our Holly on Tuesday, to suicide. We so appreciate the kind thoughts and feelings many of you have shared with us, helping us through our fog of grief. It means more than you could ever know. Some have asked for details about the wake. We will be celebrating Holly's life this coming Sunday, 12 November, at 2:00-6:00 pm, at the Overton Funeral Home (172 Main Street Islip, NY 11751; 631-581-5085). According to her wishes, she will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread at a favorite birding location in East Hampton at a later date.
