Re: [nysbirds-l] Fwd: avocet (no) at jones beach coast guard

The American Avocet found at Jones Beach State Park Coast Guard Station
sand spit by Bob Anderson, hung around for about an hour before being
chased off by a Peregrine Falcon that strafed the spit 3 or 4 times,
finally the American Avocet had enough and flew off toward the Loop Parkway
draw bridge.

Hi Andrew, I'm not on ABA so can't post about the avocet etc. but I have
blog of my own where I post my pics http://longislandbirding.blogspot.com/
I was at the JB Coast Guard Station looking for the avocet around 3:30 ,
but there were no signs of it...just saw short billed dowitchers, common
loon, black scoter flock, semi palmated sandpipers, sanderling in breeding
plumage. There were 2 obnoxious guys that walked onto the spit and were
chasing the birds away, so chances are they spooked the avocet away. Could
you please post this on ABA? I know it's sometimes helpful to post
 non-sightings too.

 Thanks,
 Rob
