Fast forward one week ahead and we have also a MongoDB binding and
performance that's already roughly on par with the H2 MK (see for
example OAK-624). I'm increasingly confident that this SegmentMK
concept will work really well also in practice.

There's still a number of missing features and optimizations that I
started to list as subtasks of OAK-593. I'll start working on OAK-630
(compareAgainstBaseState) and will follow up on the others after that.
If anyone else feels like joining the effort, feel free to pick one of
the subtasks or come up with new ones.

I'll also be looking at improving our performance and scalability
benchmarks to provide better insight on where we are in the big
picture and what are the most pressing issues to focus on.
