Oil Rises a Seventh Day as Iran Conflict May Disrupt Supplies 

By Christian Schmollinger and Gavin Evans

March 28 (Bloomberg) -- Oil rose for a seventh day in New York on concern a
dispute over Iran's detention of British servicemen could escalate,
disrupting Middle East supplies. 

U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair warned yesterday of a ``different phase'' of
efforts to release the 15 sailors and marines if negotiations fail. Oil
surged on speculation that the U.K. government had attempted a rescue raid.
Prices jumped $5 in seven minutes just before 5 p.m. New York time, to
$68.09, the highest intraday price since Sept. 6. 

``It's an indication of the level of concern people have around the
possibility of a military conflict in the Middle East,'' said Andrew
Harrington, commodities analyst at Australia & New Zealand Banking Group
Ltd. in Sydney. 

Crude oil for May delivery gained as much as $1.53, or 2.4 percent, to
$64.46 a barrel in electronic after-hours trading on the New York Mercantile
Exchange. It was at $63.85 at 3:25 p.m. in Singapore. 

The contract settled at $62.93 a barrel yesterday, up 2 cents. A U.S. Energy
Department report will probably show gasoline inventories fell for a seventh
straight week. The figures will be released at 10:30 a.m. Washington time. 

``There are all these rumors because history teaches us that the U.K. has
been pretty tough in dealing with these situations,'' said Dariusz
Kowalczyk, chief investment strategist with CFC Seymour Ltd. in Hong Kong.
``If the Iranians don't back off and release the soldiers soon there could
be some operation to free them and this could have consequences.'' 

In London, Brent crude oil for May settlement climbed as much as $1.53, or
2.4 percent, to $66.13 a barrel in electronic trading on the ICE Futures
exchange. It was at $65.64 at 3:27 p.m. Singapore time. 

Gulf Exercise 

The U.S. Navy yesterday started an exercise in the Gulf involving 15
warships and more than 100 planes. The maneuvers are the largest show of
force in the Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Associated Press
reported. 

There is no U.S. military activity in the Gulf other than the previously
scheduled exercises, U.S. Navy Commander Kevin Aandahl, a spokesman for the
Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, said yesterday. 

Iran has the second-biggest proved oil reserves. Almost a quarter of the
world's oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between
Iran and Oman at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. The surrounding region, the
Middle East, is responsible for almost a third of the world's oil output. 

Oil reached a record $78.40 a barrel on July 14 on concern Israel's attack
on Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon may spark a wider conflict. 

Royal Navy 

Iranian forces seized 15 Royal Navy sailors and marines in the Gulf on March
23, alleging they had crossed into its territorial waters while searching
merchant vessels. 

The dispute over their detention will be solved in a ``calm'' manner, Iran's
foreign Ministry said yesterday without specifying how long it may take. 

``We're seeing the re-emergence of that Middle Eastern premium which we've
had whenever we have some kind of conflict,'' said Jonathan Barratt,
managing director of Commodity Broking in Sydney. ``There are other
important factors including the build for the summer drive time and the
capacities of refiners in the U.S. and the utilization of these refiners.'' 

Oil prices have gained 10 percent the past two weeks as the United Nations
agreed new sanctions to stop Iran's nuclear research and gasoline futures
surged to a seven-month high as rising U.S. demand and refinery break-downs
sapped stockpiles. 

Stockpiles, Hurricanes 

An Energy Department report today will probably show U.S. gasoline
inventories fell 2 million barrels last week, the seventh straight decline,
based on the median estimate from a Bloomberg News survey of 14 analysts. 

U.S. refineries probably operated at 86.8 percent of capacity, up 0.5
percentage point from the week before, according to the survey. 

In France, workers agreed yesterday to continue a two-week old strike at the
port of Marseille that has left 51 vessels stranded outside the Fos and
Lavera oil terminals. Total SA's Feyzin refinery has cut output by about a
third, according to the company. 

``Clearly the strike is not helping because it reduces the potential for
gasoline imports to the U.S.,'' said CFC Seymour's Kowalczyk. ``We really
need an increase in U.S. capacity utilization which is not happening very
fast.'' 

Gasoline for April delivery rose 2.2 cents, or 1.1 percent, to $2.095 a
gallon in after-hours trading on Nymex. 

Gasoline Demand 

Gasoline demand in the U.S. peaks during the summer holidays starting on

Kalo Anda melihat untuk middle term jelas market sideways, tapi buat trading
jangka pendek IHSG mempelihatkan uptrend dari tgl 6 Maret 07 s.d 27 Maret 07
(selisih 125,41 point) dengan kenaikan IHSG yang tidak sejalan dengan
kenaikan volume (potensial turun)  dan jelas ini bukan sideways. Jadi
tergantung horizon investasi Anda dan tengtunya disesuaikan dengan pola
trading Anda.

Asian Stocks Fall on U.S. Economy Concern; Toyota, Samsung Drop

March 28 (Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks dropped for a second day, led by
companies that sell to the U.S. after consumer confidence and home prices
declined in the region's largest export market. 

Toyota Motor Corp., which made about a third of fiscal 2006 revenue in the
U.S. and Canada, and Samsung Electronics Co. fell. 

``Automakers and technology companies rely on sales in North America so the
current uncertainty over the U.S. economy is pushing the shares lower,''
said Junichi Misawa, who oversees $655 million at STB Asset Management Co.
in Tokyo. 

Inpex Holdings Inc. and Cnooc Ltd. led energy producers higher after the oil
price rose to a six-month high. Orient Corp. jumped the most in more than
four years after shareholder Mizuho Financial Group Inc. prepared to
announce a financial aid plan. 

The Morgan Stanley Capital International Asia-Pacific Index lost 0.5 percent
to 144.55 as of 7:52 p.m. in Tokyo, following a 0.6 percent drop yesterday. 

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 0.6 percent, erasing gains of as
much as 0.5 percent, while the broader Topix index slid 0.7 percent. Tokyo
Electric Power Co. led declines in utilities after a document showed it will
delay the completion of two nuclear reactors at a plant where it had an
accident. 

All other markets fell, apart from in China. India's Sensitive Index slid
1.8 percent, the most in the region. 

U.S. stocks posted their steepest losses in two weeks as economic reports
added to concern a housing crisis will dent growth. The Standard & Poor's
500 Index slid 0.6 percent. 

Consumer Sentiment 

Toyota, Japan's largest automaker, fell 1.4 percent to 7,620 yen. Samsung
Electronics, which accounted for about 16 percent of South Korean exports
last year, slid 1.4 percent to 572,000 won. Rinker Group Ltd., the biggest
supplier of cement blocks in the U.S., lost 1.9 percent to A$17.58 in
Australia. 

The Conference Board's index of consumer confidence dropped to 107.2 this
month from 111.2 in February. Spending accounts for more than two-thirds of
the U.S. economy. Meanwhile, home values fell 0.2 percent in January from a
year earlier, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller index, a measure of home
prices in 20 U.S. metropolitan areas. The decrease was the first since the
group started the index in January 2001. 

The reports came after a day after new-home sales in the U.S. dropped 3.9
percent to an annual pace of 848,000 in February. Economists had predicted
they would rise to a 985,000 rate, according to a Bloomberg News survey. 

Bad Indicators 

``The U.S. depends hugely on spending, so if consumption is hit, so is the
whole economy,'' said Park Seh Ick, who helps manage about $1.3 billion at
Hanwha Investment Trust Management Co. in Seoul. ``I think the U.S.
indicators that we'll see in the second quarter will be quite bad.'' 

Sony Corp., the world's No. 2 maker of consumer electronics which made 70
percent of its sales overseas last year, fell 2.1 percent to 6,080 yen. Hon
Hai Precision Industry Co., the world's largest contract manufacturer,
declined 2.3 percent to NT$217. 

A measure of energy stocks gained 0.7 percent, the biggest advance among the
MSCI index's 10 industry groups. 

Inpex, Japan's largest oil producer, climbed 2.3 percent to 994,000 yen.
Cnooc, China's largest offshore oil explorer, rose 0.3 percent to HK$6.62 in
Hong Kong. 

Crude oil for May delivery rose as much as 2.4 percent to $64.46 a barrel in
after-hours trading in New York on speculation supplies from the Middle East
will be disrupted if a confrontation erupts in the Persian Gulf over the
seizure of British servicemen by Iran. Futures were recently at $64.03, the
highest for a front- running contract since September. 

Stay Strong 

``Energy-related shares may stay strong for the time being as the tension in
the Middle East is keeping oil prices high,'' said Junichi Misawa, who
oversees $655 million at STB Asset Management Co. in Tokyo. 

Japan's Orient jumped 17 percent to 160 yen, its biggest advance since
January 2003. Shareholder Mizuho, Japan's No. 2 bank by assets, will
announce a financial aid plan for Orient today, said Masako Shiono, a
spokeswoman in Tokyo. 

Acom Co., Japan's second-biggest consumer finance company, jumped 6.7
percent to 4,750 yen. Credit Saison Co., a credit card company, climbed 1.5
percent to 3,950 yen. 

Tokyo-based Orient said earlier this month it expects to post a 457.9
billion yen ($3.89 billion) net loss for the year ending March 31, citing
reserves for interest repayments and bad-loans. Hiroyuki Matsumoto, Orient's
spokesman, declined to comment today. 

Positive Effect 

``Should Mizuho make Orient a subsidiary that would have a positive effect
generally for the industry,'' said Toru Kitani, who manages $3 billion in
Japanese equities at Sompo Japan Asset Management Co. in Tokyo.

*11:00 am* : The major indices have hit new session lows n the past 
half hour, failing to take any comfort from either the Dept. of 
Energy's inventory data or Fed Chairman Bernanke's economic outlook.


Briefly, with crude prices a focal point today, the market was 
bothered by the report that oil inventories fell by 846K barrels 
versus an expectation for a build of 2.025 million barrels.


Bernanke, meanwhile, reiterated much of what has been said in prior 
Fed statements, as well as what was said in the directive that was 
issued at the March 21 FOMC meeting. 

Strikingly, though, the market's reaction to today's comments is not 
at all like the bullish response we saw after the FOMC decision.   To 
wit, there was a knee-jerk sell-off today after Bernanke's remarks 
reinforced the view that there isn't likely to be a rate cut anytime

Saya sih tidak punya TINS..

cuman kalau dilihat sekilas... kalau cuman target 400M itu kekecilan...
setidaknya dengan harga tin yang setinggi ini TINS bisa punya target earning
di atas 600 M.,.. anak baru lulus SMA aja langsung bisa hitung itu.

So jangan termakan target-target si goblog direktur BUMN.

Btw,,,sekali lagi.. not interstested in tins.. too political and not enough
resource.

Bernanke Economic Expansion Not Running Out of Steam 

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke doesn't believe the
nation will slip into a recession, rejecting the notion raised by
predecessor Alan Greenspan that the economy's expansion could be in danger
of fizzling 

 

But the good news for investors stops there

Bernanke suggested Wednesday that Wall Street jumped too far last week in
thinking that Fed policymakers had signaled interest rates might drop. That
new comment sent stocks spiraling downward. The Dow Jones industrials lost
96.93 points to close at 12,300.36. 

The Fed chief testified on Capitol Hill amid growing concerns that problems
with risky mortgages and a painful housing slump could send the economy into
a tailspin. Greenspan, who left the Fed last year, recently said there's a
one-in-three possibility of a recession this year. 

But Bernanke -- while acknowledging there are risks -- told Congress' Joint
Economic Committee that the Fed does not see such negative forces pushing
the economy into a recession. 

"I would make a point, I think, which is important, which is there seems to
be a sense that expansions die of old age, that after they reach a certain
point, then they naturally begin to end," Bernanke said. "I don't think the
evidence really supports that. If we look at history, we see that the
periods of expansions have varied considerably. Some have been quite long." 

Greenspan, in remarks that contributed to a gut-wrenching 416-point plunge
in the Dow Jones industrial average on Feb. 27, suggested the expansion, now
in its sixth year, could be in danger of petering out. 

"When you get this far away from a recession, invariably forces build up for
the next recession, and indeed we are beginning to see that sign," Greenspan
said. "For example, in the U.S., profit margins ... have begun to stabilize,
which is an early sign we are in the later stages of a cycle." 

"While, yes, it is possible we can get a recession in the latter months of
2007, most forecasters are not making that judgment and indeed are
projecting forward into 2008 ... with some slowdown," Greenspan said. In
later comments, he put the risk of a downturn this year at one-third. 

Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., said Greenspan's comments had stirred up fears.
"I think it's on a lot of people's thoughts and minds," he said. 

Bernanke said the Federal Reserve last week changed its policy statement --
which investors look to for clues about future rate moves -- to gain "a bit
more flexibility, given the uncertainties that we are facing and the risks
that are occurring on both sides of our outlook." 

There's an increased threat of higher inflation on the one hand and
weaker-than-expected economic growth on the other, he said. Those economic
crosscurrents can complicate the Fed's job. 

Last week the Fed again held a key interest rate steady at 5.25 percent. But
it dropped language contained in previous policy statements that had spoken
only of the possibility of rate increases down the road. Wall Street rallied
on that change, interpreting it as suggesting the possibility of a rate cut.


Bernanke, however, said the Fed wasn't trying to send a signal to markets
about a possible cut or increase. 

The direction of rates hinges on what incoming barometers say about the
economy and inflation, Bernanke said, echoing a point also made by his
central bank colleagues last week. 

Still, he said the Fed's predominant concern continues to be inflation. 

Bernanke stuck with the Fed's assessment that the economy is likely to grow
at a moderate pace over the coming quarters. He also repeated the belief
that inflation should ease in the months ahead, but he warned that
underlying inflation remains "uncomfortably high." 

To be sure, Bernanke was careful to hedge the Fed's economic bets. The
housing slump could turn out to be worse than expected, which could further
dampen economic growth. A job market that is producing fatter paychecks
could push up inflation. 

But some lawmakers said the Fed should be open to cutting rates. 

"Evidence of a slowing economy is building. And the concern is that the
unemployment rate will begin to rise, if slow growth continues, which argues
for easing rates," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y. 

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., chairman of the Joint Economic Committee,
weighed in: "Another reason to be open to an easing of monetary policy is
the concern that the housing market adjustment is far from over." 

Bernanke said the growing troubles in the market for risky mortgages doesn't
appear to be spreading to the overall economy. "At this juncture ... the
impact on the broader economy and financial markets of the problems in the
subprime markets seems likely to be contained," he said.

Mbah mendingan si index tu di drop abisin dulu.
caranya gampang, beli setiap saham 1 lot, minimal 150 saham, mau
likuid atau nggak, trus serentak jual di bid, jadi index terlihat
turun tajem padahal karena pengaruh lastprice di bid aja.
kalo mbah mau saya bisa bantu buat kocok2;))
modal rugi duit 1 jt aja bisa bikin index ancur dan mangkin ancur,
asal bisa toel2 di critical point mbah..
dan setiap saham punya masa2 kritis untuk naik dan untuk turun abis,
kalo di kitab biksu tat mo namanya titik pusat saraf, setiap saham
disentil dikit pusat syarafnya bisa runtuh harganya:P

sedangkan kita tau, pemerintah akan menjaga harga minimal 12rban
