[Ocfs2-users] Backup issues

2012-04-02 Thread Dirk Bonenkamp - ProActive
Hi All,

I'm currently testing a OCFS2 set-up, and I'm having issues with
creating backups.

I have a 2 node cluster, running OCFS2 on a dual primary DRBD device.

The file system is 3.7Tb of which 211 Gb is used: about 1.5 million
files in 95 directories.

Everything works fine, except for the backups, which are taking way more
time than on 'regular' file systems.

I'm using rsync for my backups. When I rsync the file system above, this
takes more than an hour, without any modifications to the file system.

Network / disk speed is good. I can rsync a 10 Gb file from the OCFS2
filesystem to the same backup server with just under 100 Mb/s.

I know there is some penalty to be expected from a clustered file
system, but this is al lot. Rsyncing an ext3 file system double the size
(in Mb's and files) of this file system takes about 600 seconds...

Has anybody some advice on a backup strategy for me? Or some tuning tips?

Thanks in advance,

Dirk

No. All three cluster members had an uptime of 70 days.
Only one showed the BUG.
I've rebooted it and it seems to work fine now.

I'm not an ocfs2 expert, what could cause this kind of BUG?
Internal logic error? Filesystem corruption?

Not that I know of. Have you seen it more than once?

None of our men are "experts." We have most unfortunately found
it necessary to get rid of a man as soon as he thinks himself an
expert -- because no one ever considers himself expert if he really
knows his job. A man who knows a job sees so much more to be done
than he has done, that he is always pressing forward and never
gives up an instant of thought to how good and how efficient he is.
Thinking always ahead, thinking always of trying to do more, brings
a state of mind in which nothing is impossible. The moment one gets
into the "expert" state of mind a great number of things become
impossible.

[Ocfs2-users] ocfs2 cluster fails every few days

2012-04-02 Thread Stijn De Smet
Hi,

I'm using ovm 2.2.2, every 3-4 days I get heartbeat errors, : I/o errors
Kernel panic - not syncing fatal exception, bad entry in directory #137:
rec_len is smaller than minimal. After searching the internet I come to the
conclusion that ocfs2 has some known bugs like these and that an upgrade of
ocfs2 can solve them.
When I do:
[root@VMS01 ~]# rpm -qa | grep ocfs2
ocfs2-tools-1.4.3-4.el5

I don't get the version of the ocfs2 kernel package. So it's probably
bundled, which leaves me with the question if I can upgrade it. And if so,
which version should I use?

When I use the the el5.3 repo source I can upgrade it.. but won't I get 2
different packages, the kernel-bundles one and the new el5.3 one?

[root@VMS01 ~]# yum install ocfs2
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package ocfs2-2.6.18-128.el5.i686 0:1.2.9-1.el5 set to be updated

Though, I canceled this command.

Thank you in advance.
