Here's my experience, using Edgy to run Trailblazers.
(I promise I'll try it on Vista soon! Just need to
steal my roommate's computer.)

1) Everything runs fine, and at the proper speed.
2) Music doesn't work. 

The second one is (possibly) due to me not installing
Timidity correctly. I'll tinker a bit more before bed
and then get back to you if I make progress.

SDL_mixer actually plays midi using an embedded fork of timidity, so 
it does not really matter if timidity is installed.

What *does* matter is the instruments. they are in the freepats package, 
which ought to have been pulled in as a dependency of timidity...

freepats pulled correctly (it's kinda hard to screw
this up with Ubuntu, fortunately.)

Ah, something I installed just royally messed up
sound: now _nothing_ works, even the mp3s that used
to. I'm going to bed; this can't be fixed in a jiffy.

Still, let's not forget the key observation: sound on
my system doesn't work, and the OHR runs fine (Ubuntu
Edgy: kernel 2.6.17-11, running on a Thinkpad T-30
with 256mb RAM). So the problem's in the sound, or
it's not really a problem at all (just a quirk with
this user's particular install.) Thoughts?

I just realized that this only happens with FreeBasic 0.15b, which I was still
