On a side note, do we have an intuitive way of installing
a certain release of OpenIndiana (i.e. for reproducibility
of problematic or otherwise interesting setups, or for
organizations who certify a particular software image as
"known-good" for their environment)?

I thought of package repository paths like "/stable/oi148"
or "/stable/oi151a3" pointing to software at time of release
(same as LiveCD for basic packages), and possibly including
sub-sub-sub-versions for minor updates.

A user seeking to update would change desired repo to a new
"stable/oiXXX" or perhaps "stable/oiXXXuU" for maintenance
update releases, and run pkg image-update.

At the very least, are all of the released package versions
available in the common repo, so filters can be used to
extract particular release versions?

Re: [oi-dev] pkg.openindiana.org/experimental updated - now with gcc-44

2012-05-06 Thread Alasdair Lumsden
Hi Milan,

Urgh what a mess of output that is.

It comes down to the unfortunate fact that the work being done to /dev is
conflicting with the work I'm doing on /experimental. Right now you're on
0.151.1.4 which has newer versions of things like the nvidia package, so
/experimental is no longer an "upgrade", it'd be a downgrade for some packages
which pkg forbids.

I'm going to have to come up with a quick and easy way of overlaying
illumos-userland on top of the latest release of /dev each time a new version
of /dev comes out. Once /stable comes out this won't be a problem as things
will logically fork.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with gnome-incorporation there but it's
pointless fixing that until /experimental is updated.

Unfortunately I won't be able to look at it today as I have to go out, but I've
bumped this to the top of the priority list.

Cheers,

Alasdair

I haven't sucked in the new prestable version yet but I've resolved the

2012-05-04 Thread Alasdair Lumsden
Hi Milan, All,

I haven't had a chance yet to fix the long list of issues with it yet, sorry
for taking a while.

The /experimental repo is literally just a dump of illumos-userland over a
pkgrecv of 0.151.1.3 from /dev (Plus the sfw incorporation adjusted).

There are some conflicts that need resolving, and incorporation fixing. I guess
I will also now have to find a magic way of importing the latest pre-stable too.

Will keep you all updated with progress.

Cheers,

Alasdair

I updated to prestable3 today from prestable1 (older BE) and then I
added oi-experimental and tried to updated. Not the other way.

Very same I see when I try to update from prestable2 to oi-experimental.

It looks a bit like all the SUNW packages are missing - these are usually present as
"stub" packages that reference the real/sensible/name of the package. Or the problem is
that there are still dependencies on SUNW and there shouldn't be...

Chris

Nope, looks like the errors in the log say it all and you have a higher
priority repo in oi-experimental which is not a valid position to be in
to update to prestable3.

There is no testing of upgrading experimental infected machines to later
prestables and never will. You also may want to check if you're using
the latest experimental based on prestable2 or the old stuff with the
dodgy pkg.

It looks a bit like all the SUNW packages are missing - these are usually
present as "stub" packages that reference the real/sensible/name of the
package. Or the problem is that there are still dependencies on SUNW and

Hi Alasdair,

just status info, it looks like stucked because of gnome-incorporation.
I have to look at it in the next days because I have additional repo
locally + some minor tweaks on SVR4 level. I will clone/pkg fix system
at first and try again but it takes time.

2012-05-02 Thread Alasdair Lumsden
Hi Milan,

That's quite odd - it isn't doing a full update. Something will most likely be
wrong with an incorporation.

Could you try:

pkg install -nv pkg://oi-experimental/entire@0.5.11,5.11-1.1:20120421T025607Z

This should hopefully explode with some useful error messages.

Cheers,

Alasdair
