Pattern recognizion of what is a column and what is not based on coordinates of
each character is something your brain can do very easily but programming an
algorithm that does that is not trivial by far, so i guess the answer is no

It is certainly possible but not trivial - Ocropus provides a free software C++
implementation of algorithms to do this if you're interested. The basic
approach is to try to the largest columns of whitespace in the page and divide
the text into columns based on that.

Sorry, that should read:

The basic approach seems to be finding the largest columns of whitespace in the
page and dividing the text into columns based on that.

[Okular-devel] [Bug 180263] New: offset accumulation when scrolling PDF by page (space button)

2009-01-10 Thread I Semenov
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180263

Summary: offset accumulation when scrolling PDF by page (space
button)
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: okular-devel@kde.org
ReportedBy: ragnarok...@gmail.com

Version:(using Devel)
Compiler: gcc 4.3.1
OS:Linux
Installed from:Compiled sources

When using Space button to scroll forward a whole page in a PDF file in Fit
page mode, more than a page is scrolled, and this small offset accumulates
with time. Expected behavior is to scroll exactly one page, not a pixel more or
less.

[Okular-devel] idea

2009-01-10 Thread Mher Kazandjian
Hello,

I recently started using okular for reading pdf and djvu files. I realized
that it has an annotation tool, which i found to be very useful. The current
annotations are only in plain text format.
Is it possible to modify okular, such that instead of adding a plain text
annotation, the annotation is done in latex. This would allow a user to add
complex annotation.
For example, if i want to add a note (Note[1], or an inline note), then i
would enter :

---
\documentclass{report}
\usepackage{amssymb,latexsym,amsmath,graphics}

\begin{document}

a^b_c

\end{document}
---

or just simply (as it is done in labeling figures with text in matlab)

---
a^b_c
---

without typing in headers and stuff.
When the user clicks on the note, then the annotation appears as a pdf (or
ps) in a small window. Or the annotation appears inline overlayed on the
text.
I think this is not so difficult, becuase you can use latex and dvipdf as a
backend to compile and produce the formatted text.

best regards,
Mher Kazandjian.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Installed from:Fedora RPMs

When trying to print a PDF file, printer settings for Okular are stuck at A4.
Cannot find way to change default to US Letter. I did find the method to
change the print size for a individual file when requesting to print, however
even though I am able to change to US Letter size, when the file is printed,
the instructions to the printer are A4, e.g. I get a message on the printer to
load A4 paper.

[Okular-devel] [Bug 180291] New: Okular presentation mode fails

2009-01-10 Thread Chris Sims
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180291

   Summary: Okular presentation mode fails
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: okular-devel@kde.org
ReportedBy: c...@ccsims.net

Version: 0.7.80 with KDE 4.1.85 (4.2 Beta 2) (using Devel)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Compiled sources

Invoking presentation mode via Ctrl-Shift-P produces a blank shaded square
window with Okular icons in its corners. Clicking on the okular icon in the
upper right crashes the application. The kde crash handler provides the output
below. This problem has occurred with every document I have tried (four or
five). No similar problem occurred on my system with KDE 4.1.3 and the version
of okular that comes with that. I am running Kubuntu with the packaged kde 4.2
beta from the kde experimental repository. The video driver on my system is
Nvidia version 173. When running the same program on the same documents under
Xfce4, which I have installed alongside kde, there is no such problem.

Application: Okular (okular), signal SIGABRT

[Okular-devel] [Bug 180291] Okular presentation mode fails

2009-01-10 Thread Chris Sims
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=180291

--- Comment #1 from Chris Sims cas ccsims net 2009-01-10 22:15:25 ---
The Installed from: Compiled sources line is incorrect, placed there by the
bug reporting wizard. I chose that because there was no option to report kde
4.1.85 or 4.2 Beta 2. I am using binaries from a .deb package.

The backtrace you provided is of no use; you can get a better one by following
the instructions written in:
http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

Also, please read bug #172894.
