Another important reason to provide a mechanism for disabling this new feature:
the scrolling animation makes Okular all but unusable when running remotely
over a slow Internet connection.

[okular] [Bug 422050] New: Scrolling issues with PageDown/PageUp navigation

2020-05-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422050

Bug ID: 422050
Summary: Scrolling issues with PageDown/PageUp navigation
   Product: okular
   Version: 1.10.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: mepublic+kdeb...@posteo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The new/changed scrolling animation causes some issues with navigation inside a
PDF via the usage of PageDown/PageUp.

The issues I noticed so far are:
(a) during the scroll animation further PageDown are ignored

(b) holding 'PageDown' down results in a non uniform scroll animation

(c) navigation in a PDF with PageDown/up is slow

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
(a) double tab PageDown

(b) press 'PageDown' down and keep it pressed

(c) navigate in a PDF up or down for ~2 pages

OBSERVED RESULT
(a) Page is scrolled down for the distance of one PageDown

(b) Scroll animation (of one PageDown);short stop; scroll animation; short
stop; ..

(c) navigation is slow (key presses are ignored (see (a)) and scroll animation
is slow)

EXPECTED RESULT
(a) Page should be scrolled down by the distance of two PageDown

(b) uniform scroll animation (i.e. no visible scrolling stop)

(c) quick navigation (no scroll animation/faster scroll animation/scroll
animation which increases it speed)

This is probably like providing paper with a pencil. It turns out that the
pencil becomes a lot more powerful than without the paper, although I might
think “What? It’s just a silly piece of paper!” at first.

I made the summary more specific, to make this more findable.

The problem is that the document does not pan when zooming. The code that
handles mouse wheel zoom should be used for the pinch zoom too. The viewport
position must be updated while zooming to maintain relative position of the
mouse cursor (pinch zoom center) and the document.

[okular] [Bug 422041] New: Add scroll animation on arrow keys

2020-05-25 Thread Orestis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422041

Bug ID: 422041
Summary: Add scroll animation on arrow keys
   Product: okular
   Version: 1.10.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: orestis.ka...@hotmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The benefits of scroll animation are clear; it is easier for the eye to track
the movement so that it does not get lost after an instant scroll.

Okular supports scroll animation with Page Up and Page Down keys. However, when
using the Up and Down Arrow keys (or j/k for that matter) the animation is
still instant forcing on the reader the mini-task of tracking the position.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a (pdf) document.
2. Press Page Down.
3. Press Page Up.
4. Press Arrow Down (or j).
5. Press Arrow Up (or k).

OBSERVED RESULT
There is a scroll animation when using Page Up/Down buttons. There is no scroll
animation when using Up/Down Arrow buttons (or j/k).

EXPECTED RESULT
There is a scroll animation for any vertical or horizontal movement on the
document.

We have a misunderstanding. I didn't want to be a supplicant.

I made a suggestion on how to improve the user experience through a more modern
user interface. And when asked, I outlined cases for which it is useful.

It is now up to you or your community to decide what to do with it.
Unfortunately I have to continue with my things.

It was nice to chat with you, see you next time.
