I supect the issue around attachExistingInstance() in shell/okular_main.cpp. It does not understand what to do if okular is visible on multiple virtual plasma desktops at the same time. [okular] [Bug 444890] Program Feature "Open new files in tabs" not working
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444890 --- Comment #4 from Dominik Kummer --- Thats good to know. I now moved all okular configs to backup without success. Finally I found that the bug is related to window rules: I defined an okular window rule placing okular on all virtual desktops initially (rule policy: apply initially). As soon as I remove the rule, okular opens all documents in tabs again. When I place okular on all virtual desktops forcibly (rule policy: force) the tabs feature works also! Rule policy "apply initially" seems to be the problem here. which makes the bug really minor to me now. but eventually the bug effects other window rule use cases also. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

I am currently using fox reader through wine to access this feature, but I wondered if there are plans for native software to support it. Cheers, Dominik PS Thank you for all of your work!

D6695: Fix text labels in sidebar occasionally rendering cut off
dhaumann added a comment. With my Kate hat on I have to add that some fonts are quite broken, i.e. it may very well be that QFontMetrics has no chance in ever always returning accurate metrics (we have to fight issues like that in katepart in quite ugly ways). That said, this patch fixes a problem now by tweaking the paddling left and right. Since this is about 10 pixels in total, I would say this workaround is better than the graphical artifacts we otherwise get. A proper fix in Qt (or maybe even in the font or similar) is certainly better, but unlikely to happen soon. With this in mind, the patch looks good to me. In any case, someone else should decide whether this solution is ok, or whether there is a better fix in a realistic timeframe. @rkflx What you could try is to make a small test that shows this issue. Maybe this only appears with certain fonts at certain font sizes. In case you can reproduce, you should open a Qt bug report. Maybe one already exists... If so, what if you disable it? Sorry, I was in a hurry when I filed the bug, but yet would not want to miss the opportunity to inform the bug tracker of a problem now that it's so easy with the automatic bug tracking mechanism in KDE — particularly as it was the first one I brought through (I had to compile a lot with -ggdb and splitdebug on to generate useful stack traces) ... and on top of that: without some routine you just don't know what really is useful information to pass along. I tried to reproduce the failure with and without preview on: The problem does not occur systematically, not even with preview on; which leads me to suspect that it has to do with concurrency (maybe a race condition), and that it may happen if I close Okular while it is still saving the PDF copy... the files that crashed (3 in number) were all downloaded VISA account reports — that might be another reason (something foul in the PS-code? Still, the document showed up flawlessly, and Okular only crashed immediately after closing the frame). I have preview off now and will add to the bug report if crashes still occur.
