As far as I am concerned tasks can't be stolen, but taken - important
difference, decriminalization of colaboration etc.
Why does the interface offer this function though?

Okular seems to open files by activity. If I have dolphin 1 on activity 1 and
dolphin 2 on activity 2, and I click documents to open from within each, then
okular will open in separate windows. All files clicked in dolphin 1 will go
into another tab in a single okular instance.

why not? maintain your priorities as you wish. I dont expect to be the first
one.

I just file a bug report, try to connect the dots from a user point of view,
try to scratch the surface of the source code, maybe I can contribute something
helpful, or probably I will debug it on my own someday.

but randomly redirecting bug reporters is no real help for anyone.

so please don't redirect me into other projects without reading the report.

I supect the issue around attachExistingInstance() in shell/okular_main.cpp. It
does not understand what to do
if okular is visible on multiple virtual plasma desktops at the same time. At
least that's what the
symptom looks like. Maybe it is intentional. But it does not feel like so.

2021-11-03 Thread Dominik Kummer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444890

Thats good to know.
I now moved all okular configs to backup without success.
Finally I found that the bug is related to window rules:
I defined an okular window rule placing okular on all virtual desktops
initially (rule policy: apply initially).
As soon as I remove the rule, okular opens all documents in tabs again.
When I place okular on all virtual desktops forcibly (rule policy: force) the
tabs feature works also!

Rule policy "apply initially" seems to be the problem here. which makes the bug
really minor to me now. but eventually the bug effects other window rule use
cases also.

  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: ad...@arkades.org
  Target Milestone: ---

In Okular settings I activated this program feature option. Trying to open
several documents from within dolphin launches new instances though. I tried to
add the option --unique to okular command in Fila Associations settings, but it
does not help. And thats horrible, because I want to access okular with
shortcut Meta+O which now does only focus the first instance. The feature did
work in the past for sure, but right now I cannot recall when it stopped
working.

Since the title mentions Windows 7, what about Windows 10?
I'd argue that Windows 7 isn't even supported by MS anymore, so it's
questionable whether putting effort into this does make sense...

That said, can you start the "Uninstall Okular" with administrator rights? Does
it work then?

D6695: Fix text labels in sidebar occasionally rendering cut off

2017-08-15 Thread Dominik Haumann
dhaumann added a comment.

With my Kate hat on I have to add that some fonts are quite broken, i.e. it
may very well be that QFontMetrics has no chance in ever always returning
accurate metrics (we have to fight issues like that in katepart in quite ugly
ways). That said, this patch fixes a problem now by tweaking the paddling left
and right. Since this is about 10 pixels in total, I would say this workaround
is better than the graphical artifacts we otherwise get.

A proper fix in Qt (or maybe even in the font or similar) is certainly
better, but unlikely to happen soon. With this in mind, the patch looks good to
me.

In any case, someone else should decide whether this solution is ok, or
whether there is a better fix in a realistic timeframe.

@rkflx What you could try is to make a small test that shows this issue.
Maybe this only appears with certain fonts at certain font sizes. In case you
can reproduce, you should open a Qt bug report. Maybe one already exists...

I can reproduce this with a ps file, but not with a pdf file. In ps files, I
can increase the memory to 1.5 GB RAM withing 1 second fast scrolling. The same
file as pdf has only very few memory usage.
Albert, Pino, are there differences with respect to memory allocations here?

Not really; did you have the preview active in the file saving
dialog? If so, what if you disable it?

Sorry, I was in a hurry when I filed the bug, but yet would not want to
miss the opportunity to inform the bug tracker of a problem now that
it's so easy with the automatic bug tracking mechanism in KDE —
particularly as it was the first one I brought through (I had to
compile a lot with -ggdb and splitdebug on to generate useful stack
traces) ... and on top of that: without some routine you just don't know
what really is useful information to pass along.

I tried to reproduce the failure with and without preview on:

The problem does not occur systematically, not even with preview on;
which leads me to suspect that it has to do with concurrency (maybe
a race condition), and that it may happen if I close Okular while it is
still saving the PDF copy... the files that crashed (3 in number) were
all downloaded VISA account reports — that might be another reason
(something foul in the PS-code? Still, the document showed up
flawlessly, and Okular only crashed immediately after closing the
frame).

I have preview off now and will add to the bug report if crashes still
occur.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions to pinpoint the problem.
