[okular] [Bug 431454] New: Opening files from URLs using the Open dialog has broken
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=431454 Bug ID: 431454 Summary: Opening files from URLs using the Open dialog has broken Product: okular Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org Reporter: n...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Everything from git master. 1. File > Open 2. Paste "https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a044796.pdf; into the filename field 3. Click Open Error message that says: The file "/home/nate/SpiderOak Hive/Manuals/https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a044796.pdf; could not be found" "/home/nate/SpiderOak Hive/Manuals/" is the current directory displayed by the dialog, so it appears to be simply appending the URL to it rather than opening it unmodified. Running `okular https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a044796.pdf` works. Opening https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-desktop/-/blob/master/CMakeLists.txt in Kate's open dialog works. Committed on 21/10/2020 at 00:52. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'. Fix cursor not updated after clicking internal link updateCursor() was called by wheelEvent(), which made sense, because after the wheel event the page will have moved under the cursor. With smooth scrolling, it makes less sense in wheelEvent(), because at that point scrolling is still in the future. scrollContentsBy() appears to be called on every scroll step. (It is documented to be called at scrollbar value changes, so makes sense.) This patch removes updateCursor() from wheelEvent(), but adds it to scrollContentsBy(). [okular] [Bug 414701] Kinetic scrolling breaks Back and Forward navigation
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414701 --- Comment #16 from Nate Graham --- Can confirm the issue. It looks like the back/forward navigation calculates the prior position in the document based on scroll position and was not designed for animated scrolling. So the animated scrolling effect effectively populates the "location history" with multiple locations in the document when it should not. I'll see what I can do. Worst-case scenario, we revert animated scrolling when clicking on links until we can fix the root cause and support both. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Yes, that's intentional. We turned back on animated smooth scrolling for mouse wheels in Okular 1.11.2 after fixing the outstanding regressions with it. I guess we regressed it for you, sorry. :( In the upcoming Okular 1.12 AKA 20.12, yo'll be able to disable smooth scrolling, which should fix this for you. In the meantime, I wonder if there's any way to detect free-scrolling mice and handle the scroll input as though it was a touchpad, or turn off smooth scrolling for that case Or maybe there's a bug in how the animations are handled or something. These mise are probably sending hundreds of scroll events per second. I don't have relevant hardware to test, sadly.
