[old-chevy-truck] new to group

2013-03-18 Thread fiftyone5window
Hi,
I am new to the group, my wife and I live on the coast of central Ca. We
recently picked up an already started 1951 5 window project - got a good
bit of body and bed work to do. I am hoping to keep the original looks
outside but upgrade the running gear.

I am wondering if the 60/40 front seat out of a late model (96/97) GM
pickup will fit between the doors of the '51 ? I have one in my work truck
and
it's been comfortable for 256000 miles...hope to be able to use it.

thanks, Don

hot and cold out there...

I don't have the option of the original seat - the previous owner put in a
Toyota Tacoma cut away bench seat that is really lacking in comfort and
appearance. The steering column is a model GM that needs to go also - thinking
of an aftermarket column and trying to fit the stock wheel to it..

Yes I did, I removed the existing metal frame, and fabricated mounts to
raise the seat up about 5 inches. It wasn't too hard, I am a fabricator, it

four plates that bolted to the bottom of the legs, then built stands to hold
them off the floor of the cab, then welded flat plates to the stands to bolt
to the floor. Worked great and the seat is the right height for me.
Mike

Hi Mike, I do have a very small fabrication and welding business. What you
describe is about where this truck is at now, the original seat frame is
out, the previous owner has a Tacoma seat mounted on a 2x4 .125 sq. tubes,
but welded to the floor boards, that's coming out, I will have to get the
seat out of my '96 gmc to see how it will fit and what I have to add to the
base - and add plates w/mounting bolts as you describe.

2013-07-18 Thread fiftyone5window
Hi Nate, thanks. I think I am going with an aluminum radiator, the heat
transfer properties of aluminum are an asset in my opinion. And since the
truck has been already modifies I am not going for an original appearance
under
the hood.

I do have the stock '51 3100 radiator, it's a 2 row and looks to be in
good condition, will probably get it pressure checked and find someone who
needs a stock one.

[old-chevy-truck] Sound reduction ?

2013-09-15 Thread fiftyone5window
Hi, I am looking to replace and add some sound deadening material while I
have the '51 apart - under the headliner is toasty and falling out, same for
inside the firewall, and I would like to add some inside the doors and
behind the seat and corners. There are several products being advertised and
the pricing varies as much also - any ideas on the products would be
appreciated.

thanks, Don

Hi Cale, thanks for the reply. Truck is bare except for old glass, so now
is the time to insulate I think. good idea on the roof area, and the self
adhesive product of some form on the rest - I have found 70 mil down to
around $1.70 sq' for the 100sq ft rolls on ebay. The specialty shops seem to
want a lot more $$.
