[old-chevy-truck] Off topic, but I don't know where else to ask

2010-10-09 Thread James Tye

I am interested in joining an existing group dedicated to taking the Chinese
stuff that is on the market and making it into something actually useful and
lasting.  I have had to do this with Harbor Freight tools on a regular basis
and I am interested in comparing notes with those who have done likewise.

My apologies to those who think I should only discuss Chevy trucks here, but
you must have tools to fix up the Chevies and as a friend of mine who worked in
a machine shop said, "if you don't have good tools, you're not gonna do good
work."

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You could try a group called cheapfcaw.  They are about cheap welders such as
HF sells, but they might get into other imported ju, er, stuff!Jim in Aniwa1-48

Bill in Corvallis,

Good idea, Bill. Don't know where you would start but I will be watching your
progress.. I quess the first place to start and I'm sure you have done this but
I would be interested in searching Harbor Freight's catalog and others for the
many likely candidates.

I have used quite a few Harbor Freight Tools to work on my truck, so I guess
is not so off topic.

Re: [old-chevy-truck] Off topic, but I don't know where else to ask

2010-10-10 Thread James Tye
I had an engine hoist that the side straps did not match the holes.  Ended up
welding them.  I know the 12 ton press needs welded or it just isn't solid
enough for some jobs.  I have the remmants of another hoist being used to
support a '49 Chevy cab in my garage.  The rollers at least work.  What got me
started, tho was when I had to do a thing to my Bondo file before I could get
it right with the world as my bondo hardened on my '48 2 ton fender.  There!
worked it to on topic!  If there is not such a group, perhaps we should start
one.

As far as statuary goes, well...(oh boy, I'm gonna work this on topic
again;-)...I have some valves left over from a valve job.  Exhaust valves
and I did an unleaded conversionthese would make great eyes!

How about a mailbox holder statue fountain that has the top part of US parts
into a robot of another robot on the bottom of Chinese parts.  The fountain
comes in...well...
