[old-chevy-truck] oiling

2013-09-22 Thread rl_westmoreland

Hi All,Should there be a lot or little oil coming in the top of the engine around the lifters. I have removed the valve cover gasket and can lift the valve cover off after i shut the engine off after running for a few minutes and not much oil is present. Is this normal or should there be a good bit coming up inside valve cover and then draining back down thru the holes? Thanks, Robert

Run it with the valve cover off. You should have some oil coming out at EACH
rocker arm.

(The lifters are inside the engine so you can't see them under the valve
cover.)

I would say a goodly amount. Is this the first time you have noticed? One
time I saw where half of the rockers had lots of oil and the other half didn’t.
Someone installed one of the rocker shafts upside down. Rotated it correctly
and all had plenty of oil…
