I informed the Italian mailing list, but the only subscriber using a
@openoffice.org address was me, so as far as mailing lists are concerned
we have no problems.

3) Open a JIRA issue with Infra on a custom bounce notification

Done: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-4506

It would be good that the notification contained a link to a wiki page
where we can specify the new addresses to be used not only for mailing
lists, but also for personal aliases: if we are really concerned about
security, then place it in a public space where only committers have
write access, like the main website. This would allow for localization
of the shutdown notice and would help users.

Which reminds me --- people who used their @openoffice.org address for
their apache.org account, and have not yet added some other address to
https://id.apache.org, please do so.

It is quite a bit of headache for us to, for example, reset someone's
password when their email address of record is invalid.

yes

but please consider that there is a difference between 'questions about the
project' and 'questions about the software'. the 'old' "ooo-users-de"-list is
answered typically questions about the software.

What we need in the future in the first place is a list for the german
community and only secondarily for the german program-users.

We have a very active forum for all "children" of openoffice in

So it might make sense to create a new ooo-users-de list (or
ooo-benutzer-de or whatever) for German-speaking users to ask
questions about the project?

For the dev list, until we are fully set up with Pootle and
translations, I think it is important to have all translators and
localizers involved in one conversation here on ooo-dev. Maybe we
split out a separate ooo-l10n list later.

What do you think? If there is enough interest in a German users
list, then we would need some volunteers from the PPMC to moderate the
list. 2 or 3 would be ideal.

We had a discussion about a native language list here

(including an English draft of the proposal)

But I don't know, what Raphael is planning in the moment.

OK. I've sent a reminder notice to the legacy users and dev lists,
since they seem to still get some traffic. I'll also grep the

I'm sorry, I don't follow. Are you referring to the post about the
email forwarder, or the overall migration status wiki page?

If we have any specific instructions for extension/template authors
that we want them to do now, or any special hint we want to give them,
then this note is a great place to get that out. Or we could do that
as a 2nd announcement later. If I understand Roberto's latest note,
they believe they can manage with the shutdown of the forwarding

Re: OpenOffice.org email forwarder shutdown: That time is now

2012-02-29 Thread TJ Frazier

Rob,
Need to mention Extensions and Templates sites?
("under construction on a daily basis", "should be able to log in there
even after the shutdown")

In case you missed it on the other thread, we heard from Andrew that
the remaining Oracle servers that supported the legacy OOo project
will be shut down starting on March 15th. This includes the mailing
list and the mail forwarder.

We dealt with the mailing lists before, sending notes to the active
ones that the project had moved over to Apache and gave them the new
addresses. I subscribe to many of these lists and they have been
silent for months. I moderate one and it is all spam, and has been
for months. If you are seeing any openoffice.org list that still has
real traffic on it, then please speak up. We need to identify any
active remaining lists and send them the information here:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Email+Migration+Post

At the same time we need to notify users that the openoffice.org email
forwarding service is being retired as of March 15th. I had already
drafted a note for this, and it was previously reviewed. I've just
updated it to put in the actual shutdown date:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/%28Draft%29+Public+Statement+on+Email+Forwarding

If there are no objections, my plan is to:

1) Move that wiki page into a blog post, clean up for formatting and publish it

Draft of the blog post is here now:

https://blogs.apache.org/preview/OOo/?previewEntry=retirement_of_openoffice_org_email

2) On Monday morning send a note out to ooo-announce, referring to
that blog post for details.

3) Open a JIRA issue with Infra on a custom bounce notification

I could use help with:

1) Reaching out to NL groups that might not read or understand the
above announcement

2) Updating our migration status wiki page
(https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/OpenOffice.org+Migration+Status).
This is referred to in the post as giving "current" information, but
it is no longer current.

3) Responding to questions that this note may receive on the ooo-users list.

OpenOffice.org email forwarder shutdown: That time is now

2012-02-29 Thread Rob Weir
In case you missed it on the other thread, we heard from Andrew that
the remaining Oracle servers that supported the legacy OOo project
will be shut down starting on March 15th. This includes the mailing
list and the mail forwarder.

We dealt with the mailing lists before, sending notes to the active
