Thank you. This sounds like exactly what we needed.

Once you've picked your library, run a search. The URL will change to
something like
http://evergreen.library.beau.org/opac/en-US/skin/lul/xml/rresult.xml?rt=keyword&tp=keyword&t=jazz&l=103&d=2&f=

The key GET param you're interested in is the "l" parameter - which
stands for "library". This specifies the ID of the library found in the
actor.org_unit table to which you want to scope your search. However,
you can see that value in the URL so you don't need to look in the
database for this one.

Assuming that the value in your case is "l=102", you can provide links
to
http://evergreen.library.beau.org/opac/en-US/skin/craftsman/xml/index.xml?l=102
to start patrons at the right search scope. In our case, we redirect
patrons from various subdomains (like "laurentian.concat.ca" and
"windsor.concat.ca") to the full URL including the "l" parameter
appropriate for the scope of each library.

Hopefully this helps.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Access 2011: the Library is Open

2011-01-24 Thread Tara Robertson
Mark your calendars!

Access 2011: the Library is Open
October 19-22, 2011
Vancouver, BC

Call for proposals will be announced soon.
http://access2011.library.ubc.ca (more information soon)
Follow us on Twitter: @access_2011

There were a fair number of folks using Evergreen, or folks who were
interested in using Evergreen at the the last Access conference. With SITKA
in BC, KCLS in Washington state, and the Sage Library System in Oregon, all
using Evergreen, I'm sure there'll be both formal sessions and informal
conversations that would be of interest to folks here.

Cheers,
Tara

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] OPAC start page

2011-01-24 Thread Vicki Reeves
We have gotten some bib and holdings records to load. We celebrated by
playing in the OPAC. But that gave us a new issue ...

Our 'top' organization is our regional library group. Right now we
don't want to do anything with that but after we get our library up and
running we want to move our regional shared patron database into
Evergreen. We house those records at our library now in a homegrown
Postgresql database - it's working so they can stay where they are until
our library is working correctly in Evergreen.

Below the top organization (Libraries Southwest) is our Library
(Beauregard) and below that are our branches.

Our problem is that we don't know how to 'point' the OPAC so that it
starts searching at our library (2nd level) instead of the regional
library (top level). The default url
http://evergreen.library.beau.org goes to this:
http://evergreen.library.beau.org/opac/en-US/skin/craftsman/xml/index.xml
which says 'now searching Libraries Southwest' which is the regional
level

If I pick 'Choose a library to search', I see this:

*Libraries Southwest
   *Beauregard Parish Library

If I pick Beauregard Parish Library, I see 'Now searching Beauregard
Parish Library' which is where I want our patrons to start, but the URL
is still this:
http://evergreen.library.beau.org/opac/en-US/skin/craftsman/xml/index.xml

So I don't know how to point our patrons automatically to the page that
says 'Now Searching Beauregard Parish Library'

Any assistance will be appreciated. It's ok if you tell me I'm missing
something obvious! We'll still thank you.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Serials Migration

2011-01-24 Thread Tim Spindler
I've been looking at one aspect of this. We can get a textual holdings
statement (866) out of our system. It looks like it would be fairly simple
to just dump this data in the table serials.record_entry with some
modification to be compliant with marc xml, etc. I know this doesn't deal
with the prediction pattern but if somehow manage to get the prediction
pattern built from the date of migration, will it matter that the holdings
statement wasn't build from a prediction pattern. The following are some
examples of the MFHD data we have been able to extract. Our system largely
seems to just be providing 866.

=245 00$aBlack enterprise.
=866 \\$81$av.29:no.8- 1999:Mar-

=245 00$aAmerican libraries.
=866 \\$81$av.33- 2002- [Microfilm=v.15-v.32 1984-2001]

Also, each file represents the holdings of one library. It looks like we
have to extract serial holdings from libraries separately.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] registering patron who is able to do different jobs

2011-01-24 Thread Christoph Schilling
Hi,
I am using evergreen in a small college library in Africa. I tried to
register a patron who helps with cataloging the books and putting them in.
I put him into the cataloger's group but now he is very restricted:

* when opening the staff client a window pops up: Permission Denied:
VIEW_BILLING_TYPE and requests authorisation. (But I want him to
be able to work when I am not around)
* importing a new record is working but when it comes to holdings
maintenance as soon as clicking "add volume" the message is: You
do not have permission to add volumes to that library.

I already tried to give the permission to add volumes in the user
permission editor, but it didn't help.
How can I give those patrons who work the permission to do all the
different jobs in the small library?

Thanks for any help!
Christoph

Thank you Lisa for taking the time to let us know how things are going with
the KCLS catalog and to Mike for giving us some background on the decision
to turn off faceting. I know I've found this information to be very helpful.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Reminder: Evergreen Community IRC Meeting for TOMORROW Tuesday Jan 25

2011-01-24 Thread Ben Shum
Greetings! This is a reminder that our next Evergreen community IRC
meeting will be held at:

 * 11:00:00 a.m. Tuesday January 25, 2011 in America/Los_Angeles

 * 02:00:00 p.m. Tuesday January 25, 2011 in Canada/Eastern

 * 07:00:00 p.m. Tuesday January 25, 2011 in UTC

This is a public meeting for the Evergreen community that will be held
on the #evergreen channel on the Freenode IRC network
(http://evergreen-ils.org/irc.php). All members of the community with an
interest in contributing to the improvement of Evergreen are welcome to
participate. If you are unable to attend at the designated time, please
feel free to submit comments for any of the agenda items in advance to
the Evergreen general mailing list.

The agenda is evolving at
http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=community:meetings:2011-01-25
- please extend and amend to ensure that it meets the immediate concerns
of the project. Also, it would be great if committee groups would edit
the agenda page to include links to group reports in advance of the meeting.

For agenda items that have the potential to be too long to express
during a single IRC meeting, it would probably make sense to post more
considered opinions in advance on this mailing list. Examples of such
agenda items might include major release process changes or drastically
revising our bug tracking processes. If a given discussion item starts
eating up too much meeting time and a decision is not immediately
necessary, we can also delegate the responsibility to a volunteer
sub-team for investigating alternatives and coming up with a proposal
for adoption at the next meeting.

Hope to see you there!
