[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Spine Label Printing in 3.1 with the Dymo LabelWriter 450 Printer
Hello everyone, Is there anyone successfully printing spine labels in the web client (3.0 or 3.1) using a Dymo LabelWriter 450 printer who would be willing to share their Evergreen Label Template code and what settings they used in Chrome (and anywhere else settings had to be adjusted)? Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Cursor focus in Webby
Hi Don, We'd also love to see this behaviour for the basic, advanced, and the search textbox (on the search results screen). One of our libraries brought it up after our upgrade to 2.12.1 and it was on my list to test on a server without our local customizations (to make sure it wasn't just happening to us) and then report to launchpad. If you create a bug report for this let me know. Thanks, Jennifer Quoting Donald Butterworth : All, A few weeks ago we updated to 2.12.1 and because I don't have to print labels, I've been able to use Webby almost exclusively to do cataloging. One of my pet peeves had been after clicking the Browse search button, the cursor wasn't focused in the the search box on the search screen. A small thing, but something I ran into constantly. With 2.12.1 the fix is in, and it works great. Not only is the cursor in the search box, but the text remains highlighted after the search, even after switching screens. This is great behavior since it means I no longer have to click and swipe with the mouse when I want to do the next search. I can just start typing or pasting. Love it ! You know what they say. "If you give a mouse a cookie, then he'll want a glass of milk"... this same behavior is not yet in place in Webby, for Keyword search, Advanced Search, or in the Search textbox on the Record Summary screen. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Early stages: re-organizing the official documentation
+1 This is awesome! Jennifer Quoting Jane Sandberg : Hi Evergreen colleagues! A while back, a group of us chatted on IRC about the possibility of re-organizing the official documentation to be more useful to Evergreen users of all stripes. Remingtron and I put together a draft layout that splits the documentation into 6 overlapping books, each with a specific type of user in mind (e.g. acquisitions staff, local administrator, consortial administrator, etc.) That can be found here: http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-docs:reorg_2014:audience_focused_layout Sitka also does a good job targeting its documentation to specific types of users: http://docs.sitka.bclibraries.ca/Sitka/current/html/ We'd love to hear what you think about re-organizing the official documentation into a more audience-focused layout. We are still definitely in the beginning stages of this, and would love to have you and your ideas in this discussion. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen for Academics: need community feedback for December meeting
Hi, 2. I vote for course reserves for December. 3. I vote for quarterly or every other month. Jennifer Quoting Yamil Suarez : Hello, I wanted to solicit some community feedback in preparation to try to have an Evergreen for Academics meeting sometime in December. Please forward this email to those in your institution that work in academic libraries or anyone that has overlapping interest in our topics. At the last Evergreen for Academics meeting we decided to ask the community feedback on three questions… 1) When should we meet in December? Please fill out this Doodle poll to pick a date and time to meet in December on IRC. I will close the poll on Friday, December 4 at non EST. (Doodle polls only require that a valid email address is provided.) http://doodle.com/poll/px48748tkq2tud8v 2) We wanted to pick topics to focus on during future meetings, and more specifically what topic should we pick for the December meeting. During the October meeting there was a lot of interest in course reserves as the topic of the next meeting. I would suggest that we consider picking that as our meeting topic for December, since I was not able to plan a November meeting. Though feel free to suggest other topics to cover in December or for the next group meeting in 2016 Topic suggestions: inventory functionality, improving in-house use functionality, course reserves, patron loading, exporting citations in the catalog, authorities 3) We also wanted feedback on how often we should meet going forward. Some folks suggested quarterly meeting. Though since we might start picking specific topics to cover at teach meeting, we might want to meet every month or every other month. Thanks in advance, Yamil P.S. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Load Catalog Record ID's question
Hi Leslie, We ran into something along these lines a while ago. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/891785 Our libraries don't appear to use this functionality often so we haven't tested this issue on more recent versions. Jennifer Quoting "St. John, Leslie" : We have encountered a couple of limits on the Acquisitions functionality Load Catalog Record ID's. First we can not load more than 50 record id's, and then only 25 will display. Therefore only 25 catalog record ID's can be loaded at a time. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Feedback requested on patron editor in web client
Hi Kathy, We think this looks great and are glad to see the display options accessible. We have multiple libraries that use that functionality on a regular basis. Thanks! Jennifer Quoting Kathy Lussier : Hi all, Thanks to everyone on the feedback you provided for the patron editor. I've created a mock-up based on the feedback - http://www.screencast.com/t/4lcqzkcxedgN. The idea is that all of the elements above the Patron Edit heading in this interface would remain fixed to the top of the interface. This mock-up displays the edit view of the registration/edit form. The tabs that bring you to the different areas of the patron record (check out, items out, holds, etc.) would be fixed as well, which fits in with the easy access we have to those buttons in the existing client. Although people didn't think it was necessary to keep the display options accessible at all times, I put those in the fixed area primarily because it made the best use of the space available. Let me know if you have any feedback on this mock-up! For example, if they won't give extracts and all you can do is run reports on circulation but the reports lack crucial data and can't be connected to patrons it'll be a mess. When an ILS install is not facilitated by a vendor there are sometimes work arounds if you have physical access to the database but if I understand how LW works that's not an option. I have a long rant about signing agreements for cloud hosting data without contractual rights to your data but that's for another day. Short version, Step 1) Find out if LW will extract the data in a way that facilitates migrating it. Connection points between data (like being able in the extract to say Circulation X is Patron Y's) is really important here, as well as completeness of records. Step 2) If they're not helpful you can start seeing what the library can pull out via whatever tools they were given. This gets into finger crossing and prayers. Step 3) Beg? Law suit? Pay hostage fees to have data freed? I've seen all three of these happen. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Z39.50 Index Field Maps and the Local Catalog--can you help?
Hi Tony, For Part 1, your logic is correct, though when doing the search you may or may not want cataloguers to be selecting the drop-down to say "visual materials". Depending on the accuracy of the existing cataloguing this may actually filter out results they want to see. I am guessing that the Format drop down menu is based on character 6 of the Leader. Once the search is done staff can select a local result and chose "Show in Catalogue" and then add their holding. I think it really depends on the library/cataloguer (and what permissions they have been granted) whether they start their search from the catalogue or start from Z39.50. Our libraries do both. The important part is to remember to select Local Catalogue in Z39.50. I have no idea about Part 2. Hope this helps, Jennifer Quoting Tony Bandy : Hi all, Hope the conference is going well? I was wondering if anyone on the list can help me with a Z39.50 Index Field Maps and searching the local catalog question. If so, thanks! --- Here's the scenario: Library A has a new DVD that they would like to add to their catalog. Using the Z39.50 portion of the current 2.7.X staff client, is there a way to search the local catalog for any existing bibs before the library decides to bring in a new bib record? I would think they could select the drop-down to say "visual materials", choose their local catalog and bring up by title, author, etc. etc. a list of bibs. This way they could choose to overlay or just attach an item. Is this logic right? Would a better choice be to choose the TPAC instead of the Z39.50 portion of the staff client perhaps? --- Part 2: Given the Index Field Mapping Options on the Evergreen system, does that relate in any way to the scenario above? I'm trying to logic my way through this. The documentation (see: http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.8/_z39_50_search_enhancements.html) helps in a generic sense, but I'm not sure how this relates to searching your own local catalog for visual materials. --- Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide... --Tony Tony Bandy to...@ohionet.org<mailto:to...@ohionet.org> OHIONET 1500 West Lane Ave. Columbus, OH 43221-3975 614-484-1074 (Direct) 614-486-2966 x19 -- Jennifer Pringle Co-op Support BC Libraries Cooperative Tel: 1-888-848-9250 Email:jprin...@sitka.bclibraries.ca Website: http://bc.libraries.coop

If you double click on that line (not on the name) you can see and edit the template being used. Our libraries currently all print their worksheets to printers with 8.5x11 paper but we would love to hear if anyone has a worksheet template that works well with receipt printers. I am not aware of any way currently to have worksheets print automatically (as of 2.4) but our libraries would like to be able to print worksheets automatically as part of receiving items on an invoice in the future. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Acquisitions - Prepayment
Hello Dee, At this point (based on 2.4) the prepayment option is strictly informational. If the box is checked it is indicated on the purchase order in red. For your workflow I would suggest creating a dummy fund, maybe using the vendor name for the fund name, and use that fund to pay for all items ordered from that vendor. You don't even need to put money into the fund, just make sure there is no Balance Stop Percentage entered. When creating the purchase orders use the dummy fund for all line items and have default prices that staff enter. (The amount entered into estimated price is the amount that gets entered in the price field in the copy editor so you may want to have different defaults for different types of items.) This way the purchase orders can be activated and the items will appear in the catalogue and can be received. For invoicing I would suggest you create one invoice for the vendor at the beginning of the year and have staff link the purchase orders/line items to that invoice throughout the year. At the end of the year you have the option of entering and saving the invoice with the default prices or going through the invoice and entering the correct amounts for every item. It all depends on how important having the amounts accurate are to the library and in this case it sounds like that is less important to the library than the other acquisitions functionality. (If you do plan to go through and enter the correct amounts on the invoice I would recommend allocating the large dollar amount to the fund either at the beginning or end of the year, depending on when it is paid to the vendor.) Through the reporter the library would be able to pull out information such as how many items were purchased from the vendor. Hope this is helpful, Jennifer -- Jennifer Pringle Sitka Support BC Libraries Cooperative Email:jprin...@sitka.bclibraries.ca Quoting "Nolan, Delores K" : I have a couple of questions regarding the "Prepayment" option on the Evergreen purchase order and some workflow questions in relation to that. First of all, does the "prepayment" option currently have any functionality behind it, or is it strictly informational? How would other libraries handle the workflow for this scenario? A library pays a large dollar amount to a vendor annually. The library orders books monthly from the vendor. The library wants to be able to keep track of what books they order, but they do not need to know the individual cost of each book. At the end of the year they do want to know how many books they ordered from that vendor. An invoice could be created and paid the beginning of the year for the annual cost. Selection lists and purchase orders could be created each month, but it does not seem possible to activate a purchase order without a price or fund applied to the line item. Basically the library wants to create the PO and add the bibs to the catalog so that the order status is available to the public. They also want to track the receiving and processing of the books. The annual invoice could be linked to several different purchase orders throughout the year, correct? Any thoughts on how to handle the purchase order piece in this situation? How can the library use the function of the purchase order without adding pricing or funds? Hi Robert, When you print your invoice in Evergreen at the bottom of the invoice it lists each fund that is used with the total spent on the invoice for the fund. Is this what you are looking for? I think Lebbeous was simply trying to discourage sharing screenshots of proprietary software. If this can't be done in Evergreen today and someone were to develop it based on the screenshot provided, it could potentially lead to problems. We all just want to err on the side of caution when it comes to these matters. -Grace On Fri, Jul 12, 2013 at 11:54 AM, Jim Taylor wrote: I think the question was simply what it was...is there a way to create a similar summary?I don't believe it was a plea for someone to turn Evergreen into Symphony. Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] encumbering a purchase not in the catalog
Hi Elaine, If I am understanding your question correctly this bug is exactly what you are looking for: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/833820 There are currently two ways to work around this in 2.2 and 2.4 (and probably 2.3 as well): 1. Set up a OPAC-invisible shelving/copy location and use it for these line items. The items won't display to your public and you can then delete the items and MARC records from the catalogue as needed when you catalogue the items when they arrive. 2.Create a new purchase order and add the items as charges rather than line items. You will need this fix in order to activate the PO with only charges on it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1177916 The complication with this option is that you cannot currently select charges from a purchase order and add them to a specific invoice. To create an invoice for the charges (and un-encumber the funds) you must create an invoice from the entire purchase order. Hope this helps, Jennifer -- Jennifer Pringle Sitka Support Email:jprin...@sitka.bclibraries.ca Quoting Elaine Andersen : I'm not exactly sure how to phrase this -- But, is it possible to enter an encumbrance in Acquisitions, when we are purchasing something that will not be in the catalog -- One example, when we are purchasing some books that will be part of kits, and we do not want the books to show, as the title that was purchased -- Thank you -- Elaine Andersen
