It's part of the ACR Application Reduction program.  They are looking to
rebalance utilization of hardware for each application.  Some applications
may have too much infrastructure than needed so they are looking to better
utilize hardware utilization/ratio per application.

 

This is a Program Integration role - they work with all business facing
segments within CTS.  Excellent communication skills are essential and they
must be comfortable working with CIO level and down.  IT infrastructure
background is needed and application management background would be helpful.
They will be following UHG's 10 step process and PMP or Six Sigma would be
nice.

 

Activities include coordinating the delivery of multiple projects,

General Work Statement:

Con Edison is looking for a seasoned application development professional to
join the team supporting its Energy Management systems. The systems consist
of a mixture of in-house developed systems as well as vendor applications
that support gas and electric commodity trading, energy risk management, and
accounting. In house development is performed using Microsoft .Net/SQL
Server 2000/2005. Vendor systems include Allegro Development's Allegro and
Global Energy Decision's Schedule Management.

The position will begin February 2009 and will last 3-6 months. Extensions
beyond this timeframe are likely, subject to additional requirements that
may arise. The candidate will work primarily at the headquarters location -
4 Irving Place, New York.

The candidate will be expected to analyze, design, code, test, and document
all changes. The candidate will be expected to work on several distinct, but
related projects. Some projects will have the guidance of a technical
project lead, while others will not. The candidate is expected to be capable
of performing system architecture tasks, have excellent analytical skills,
and be a proficient coder and writer. The candidate is expected to be
comfortable working on a variety of assignments to provide staff
augmentation on focused tasks, as well as lead new development projects
independently. In all cases, the candidate must be a flexible team player
who understands that his/her role is to provide assistance to several
critical and pressurized projects, and may be called upon to perform varied
tasks from system architecture, analysis, coding, and documentation as the
need arises.

The work is interesting, the team is great and professional, and the
environment is pleasant. Some of the systems are technically complex,
implementing fully object oriented concepts, and others are less complex.

The first project will implement enhancements to an internally developed Gas
Trading System. The system is complex from both a technical and business
perspective. The project involves a great deal of requirements gathering and
design documentation, technical architecture changes, and coding in
Microsoft VB.net, and SQL2000/5. The candidate will work as part of a
high-functioning team, and is expected to work effectively as a member of
the team, as well as independently. In sum, we need the total package - a
technical architect and programmer, super analyst, with great written and
oral communication skills. Don't bother submitting average candidates.

Reason for the Position:  Banner Environment - Application Development

UNCG has implemented all core modules of SunGardHE Banner systems and the
MIS department continuously develops new functionality integrated within the
Banner framework.

Application Development in this Banner environment includes development
support of custom Internet Native Banner (INB) Forms, Self Service Banner
Web Pages (SSB), PL/SQL packages, Appworx Job Modules & Chains, Data
Maintenance Processes, Interfaces, Data Tables and Views. Customizations may
also take the form of modifications to baseline vendor supplied code.

UNCG utilizes a three-tier environment (Development, Validation and
Production) to manage routine development and production control processes.
Additional Banner instances are created and used to support specific
projects. Data tables number 4200+ in each Banner instance.


 

Job Description:  
MIS's clients have a project backlog of small and medium sized projects
centered around, but not exclusive to the Banner General Module. UNCG is
seeking contractor assistance in performing all aspects of applications
development work related to these projects. Contractor must be able to
perform all aspects of work falling within the systems development life
cycle (SDLC) (analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation,
maintenance). Design documentation in the form of functional and technical
specifications is required for any new feature and/or functionality and
requires ITS management approval. Contractor will work under the supervision
of an ITS manager. Depending on the nature of the project, contractor may be
working with a team of other ITS staff or independently performing tasks
falling within one or more phases within the SDLC. Solutions will be
developed under both Banner 7.x and Banner 8.x releases.

All work to be performed by the contractor is to be to UNCG's standards
which will be available for review by contractor candidates selected for
interview. 

Work is to be performed on site in Greensboro, NC. UNCG will provide a work
space for the contractor co-located with MIS department and desktop computer
for use with standard MIS software (TOAD or PL/SQL Developer), Oracle Forms
Developer, Ultra-Edit Suite. All work will be performed in UNCG development
environments and follow standard UNCG protocols for code promotion and
client testing.   

 

Required Skills:  RDBMS-possess 5 yrs exp. developing applications in an
enterprise level relational database management system environment, with 3
yrs on Oracle and a thorough understanding of RDBMS concepts including
normalized/denormalized data architectures, role/object/system security, and
database object creation/maintenance
SDLC-exp in all phases of the systems dev life cycle (analysis, design,
coding, testing, implementation, maintenance)

Troubleshooting-ability to resolve highly complex problems related to data,
Banner application configuration, Banner/Oracle user level security, Oracle
object properties. 

Communication/Collaboration-excellent oral and written comm skills required;
learn & understand core operating principles for client work units; able to
relate core operating principles to specific IT solutions; confer w/ mgt and
senior ITS tech staff for IT architecture decisions;

*Able to provide for knowledge transfer to OIT Web Publishing staff.*

Provides guidance and direction and assists in trouble shooting for TeamSite
problems.
The ability to analyze or recommend commercially available software that is
beneficial to the Agency needs.
Able to see the big picture and knows how to solve and implement the
solution.
Self starter and self motivated in meeting all deadlines for projects.
Receives direction from Manager and works with very little supervision.
Responsible for evaluating our existing systems and our new user needs to
analyze, design, recommend, and implement TeamSite changes system wide.
Consults with Creative Services to define our needs/problems, conducts
research, performs studies and surveys to obtain data, and analyzes problem.

Ability to implement all TeamSite upgrades/ patches as they become
available.
Working knowledge of the *TeamSite developers network (DevNet) and
supporting forums; As well as problem ticket process with Interwoven.
*Expertise in the application of TeamSite within the State of New Jerseys
Portal (iplanet).
Server experience, in order to provide back up and support to the server
admin and migration to new servers and upgrades to the latest version of
TeamSite.
An understanding of government business processes and operations.
*Expertise in the application of IW Perl, HTML, XML, XHTML, Java,
Javascript, Unix, Ajax*
Strong communication skills are necessary
Develops high level briefings and proposals

The Application Administrator position requires self-motivation and
